My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

Meanjin only cost UniMelb $220k a year?! This is CHUMP CHANGE in such an institution. The whole thing is infuriating. I haven’t accepted its end. Won’t somebody please tell me it’ll exist again somehow

We have RECENT LIVING MEMORY of awful bushfires & drought restrictions, yet just 1 of these proposed data centres' usage could supply 66k Melburnians with water for a YEAR

7 of them want permits

It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.

below is the brief acceptance speech I was going to give on Tuesday, but instead my Fellowship was rescinded a few hours before the award ceremony:-

I acknowledge that I’m speaking on the unceded lands of Turrbal, Yuggera and Jagerra peoples and pay my respect to their Elders, past and present.

Allow me to address the elephant in the room: The decades-long outsourcing of domestic manufacturing to China was not an insidious Chinese conspiracy for dominance but the greedy strategy of the American ruling class to explode its profit margins by exploiting global inequality.

You literally are saying the event that happened was disgraceful whilst the top banner ad is literally part of the reason that the act occurred.

Your staff didn't even think to pause the ads today.

In addition to quiet carriages on trains, I wish there were low odour carriages so I wouldn’t have to breathe through the fug of perfume, the smell of a person who had a ciggie just before hopping on the train, and whatever that weird bodywash is that smells like watermelon.

Hi @keanebernard.bsky.social Just wanted to point out that the Suburban Rail Loop $200 billion estimate is a furphy.

🚇The Suburban Rail Loop is many things, but it's not a $200 billion project. It looks big because the detractors like to quote cost estimates in nominal dollars - which add 50 years of inflation. Our letter in yesterday's Age. #Melbourne #PublicTransport
