As a retiring but still sitting member of the House, MTG has the opportunity to read into the public record documents that otherwise could not be released... and would be protected by the constitution's speech or debate clause from prosecution.

It is really bothering me (understatement) that the message is “bring back that one innocent guy” and not “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK SHUT DOWN THIS WHOLE OPERATION IMMEDIATELY.”

HB 1576 is @mnolangray.bsky.social's bill of the week!

As a historian of pandemics, I have to echo how completely misguided this decision is. Surveillance is the ONLY way we keep track of a number of pathogens. It is non-invasive and non-disruptive. And it's cheap, esp. in comparison to all the fallout that would have to be dealt w/ without detection.
This is extremely frustrating. Over the past few years, we built a fast and accurate real-time virus monitoring system in a non-invasive way (analyze wastewater), and just like that, it's gone. These types of things can't easily be spun back up in the future. End of an era, I guess 🤷‍♂️

We often look back on the seminal moments in our history and wonder "What would I have done?"

This is our moment. This is our time.

We must stand up. We must speak out. We must do everything we can to stop a President who has every intention of destroying our democracy.

Just a legal historian here reminding everyone that “high crimes and misdemeanors” do not need to be felonies.

They can include political abuses and stupidity, like, hypothetically, destroying the economy and wiping out people’s savings in 3 days.

Symbols matter. The flag stands for the Constitution. If you’re standing up for those ideals, fly it proudly. Don’t let those who disrespect our founding principles act like they represent them—own the symbol, own the message.

You don't have to ban books if you can just make all books inaccessible to everyone all the time. Get rid of libraries and you help create a dumber, more easily manipulated, less resilient population.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.
