Last month was the 2nd hottest April on record globally...

It was also separately the *warmest* April for global land areas and the 2nd warmest for global ocean areas.

A line graph shows the time series of global mean surface temperature anomalies for each April from 1850 through 2025. There is a long-term increasing trend and large year-to-year variability. The mean surface temperature anomaly in April 2025 was 1.22°C globally. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1901-2000 climate baseline. A new David Attenborough documentary is always an event, but I think that Ocean really is something innovative and different. I've seen some clips, and it tells a critical & unseen story (plus spectacular photography, of course). It'll be in cinemas from May 8th. Do go!
