After ICE did this in Illinois, the Secretary of State revoked the plates, sent a cease and desist to ICE, threatened to suspend rental car licenses for allowing ICE to swap plates and set up a tip hotline to report plate tampering.

MN deserves the same action.

Personally I've found the best method is shovel and then use a push broom to remove all the snow especially if any had been walked on and stuck to the pavement. Then there's no need for salt or grit.

The city needs to follow its own advice though. I've seen literal piles of salt out there.
Physical removal of snow is your best defense for keeping sidewalks ice-free. Use salt sparingly — more salt does not make it work better or faster. In extreme cold, use sand for traction since salt only works when pavement is warmer than 15°F. More tips: https://bit.ly/450rmgD

They are probably going to consider the name ABOLISH ICE too political to be considered but I'm submitting it anyway.
Sound the alarms: it’s snowplow-naming season!

The nearly 200 dollars spent on rubber bands is my favorite. How does that even happen?
the post-general campaign finance report was due yesterday, so here are my favorite expenditures of this city election season

Pushing back on the idea that the point is to feel smug.

It's to feel pride in the active stewardship of your neighborhood.

Minnesotans may have toxic traits. Some may even act smugly about doing this, which I don't condone.

But these kinda things are good acts of preparedness & community care. 💛
If you wanna be a good neighbor and get extra Minnesota Nice points*, it is a fantastic time to check the storm drains on your street to make sure they’re not clogged with leaves before The backed-up water freezes.

*Points not redeemable for anything, but the important thing is you can feel smug.

We warned you that self-driving cars would just create self-driving traffic jams, and here they are.

The car industry has no solution to the shortage of space in cities. Public transit, cycling, and walking are all part of the answer, but cars are not.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

"You don't have to accept this future"
Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

Driverless cars might be "safer" but there's not enough accountability or regulation.

I do not consent to being a test subject in their experiments.
