What the public does not understand about these retaliatory cases is that what is on trial is the ability for men to abuse their power against women without consequence. When women lose defamation lawsuits for speaking up, men win the right to abuse with impunity

Josh Hawley serves on this committee and the chair, Sen. Bill Cassidy, claimed in a release that "chemical abortion drugs not only kill innocent babies, but also put women in serious danger." Translation: you can expect a lot of garbage from them and the two anti-abortion witnesses, one of whom is Liz Murrill, the Attorney General of Louisiana, whose office filed the aforementioned lawsuit. (Murrill is also pursuing criminal charges against two doctors accused of mailing abortion pills to Louisiana, one from New York and another from California.) Democratic members of the committee invited as their witness a Georgia OBGYN who is a fellow with Physicians for Reproductive Health.

The video also allegedly shows the CBP agent saying “Do something, bitch” before shots were fired. In private Signal chats, the CBP agent boasted to other officers: “I fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book boys.” If he felt comfortable enough communicating that to fellow employees, it speaks to an irredeemable organizational culture.

Wrote a piece for @slate.com explaining that states have a long history of prosecuting federal officers when they allegedly use excessive force. Federal officers are only immune from such prosecutions when they act reasonably in carrying out lawful duties.

Anti-abortion advocates are turning attention to altering training requirements for ob/gyn residency programs to make training in abortion care "opt-in" vs "opt-out."

As a result, residency programs may no longer provide training in abortion care or may stop providing abortion care completely

The Missouri Supreme Court has put the state's abortion ban back into effect following an appeal from AG Andrew Bailey.

This was only possible after lawmakers passed a bill in April allowing the AG to challenge preliminary injunctions.

I wrote about the present danger of abortion snitching in 2023–what those profound violations of trust do not only to intimate relationships but also to democratic norms and values. This PA case is another instance of a friend doing the snitching, with similarly destructive consequences.
