The dems caved because of the filibuster. The filibuster allows them not to pass legislation that their left flank wants. The way they see their job is primarily anti-populist and secondarily republican/fascist opposition. At the end of the day defending your rights and quality of life is secondary

I think the framing here to highlight to a more activist online readership is not the moral issue about throwing vulnerable people under the bus, which is true. Its that he *doesn't see vulnerable people as a source of practical power* which is why dems lose.
