Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

The resignations of Tim Davie and Deborah Turness must be an opportunity for the BBC to turn a new leaf, rebuild trust and resist those like Nigel Farage who want to destroy it

We must stand up for a strong, independent BBC, to stop Trump’s America becoming Farage's Britain.

A great day for the golden rule of political analysis: when the right wins it is a resounding ideological victory that humiliates the left and when the left wins it is a precarious fluke that will surely end up humiliating the left. Conservatives are power’s landlords and the left merely tenants

The government spends £2.7 BILLION a year on TAX BREAKS for oil and gas companies

Those companies pay billions to their shareholders

And then lay off their workers

Think that's unfair?

Tell Rachel Reeves to stop propping up oil and gas companies and back workers instead…

Exactly. And it raises the question - has Starmer, the human rights lawyer, abandoned his principles? Or is he just a useless manager who assembled a team of useless SPADs and has no idea what they are up to?
it literally isn’t though
Keir Starmer’s spokesman asked about Israel detaining British citizens who were on the Gaza aid flotilla, while in international waters, replies that it is a “matter for the Israeli Government”

The headline is spot on except human rights are inherent and cannot be abolished. What these scoundrels seek to abolish is protective legislation.

But they will ensure designated* in-groups keep their protections.

150K people marched in London a few weeks ago, to protest against immigration. UK population - 70 million.

In Amsterdam yesterday, 250K protested the government's Israel policy. NL population - 18 million.

Yet the right in both countries push the line that immigration is people's #1 concern

this is, of course, not new

“Jews run the world” and “trans women will attack you in the ladies room” and “that Black 10-year-old is a scary grown man” are all examples of the same deceptive reframing of where power lies so people can justify doing whatever they want

it’s evil every time

- Paracetamol does not cause autism.
- Sadiq Khan is not introducing Sharia law in the UK
- We do not have a massive free speech problem here.
- Britain is not on the verge of civil war.
These are not controversial subjects or contested, they're just not true.

This must be a watershed moment. The government's continued use of X is no longer simply negligent. It is an act of conscious assistance to violent extremism.
The common sense meaning should make this Elon Musk's "rivers of blood" moment

Though I think he goes further than Enoch Powell in a couple of important ways
Elon Musk spoke by video to Tommy Robinson's anti-immigrant rally in the UK today.

"You're in a fundamental situation here where, whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you," said Musk. "You either fight back or you die."

Musk, Tommy Robinson - fascist Britain. A hellpit of violence and racism. They’re using our flag as their rallying cry. And X as their megaphone.
No more appeasement.
No more ‘legitimate concerns’ horseshit.
It’s beyond time to sanction Musk, regulate X and shut these fuckers down.

Starmer needs to stand up to this. A government that doesn't defend its country's values against these blatant attacks is not doing its job.

Good on Starmer for acting swiftly and decisively for once. However, it has been asserted that Mandelson was "thoroughly vetted". Humbug! Simple common sense should have disqualified Mandelson in the first place. The man has always shared an ecological niche with the remora.
