The student gotchas might be the second most disruptive thing happening in higherEd. It’s the Heritage “debate me” model with the Turning Point edgelord leveling-up.
You know that OU student who was failed by her professor for getting all biblical in her paper? When you read the actual article she was assigned to respond to, it becomes pretty fucking clear that she didn't do the assignment. She didn't respond to it. She wrote her own bullshit.

They were still going to get some wins but it would have helped A LOT if we could have found the professional wherewithal to mock this.
This is why I've believed for decades that the ac response to this Turning Point type shit shld simply have addressed it on the merits (no evidence, no reasoning, no value) rather than entertaining their false premise of "intellectual diversity." Diversity doesn't mean incl what we know is wrong.

This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”

The more profane and blasphemous the shitheads running this country, the more they need to brandish their Christian bona fides via the sorts of activities @marisakabas.bsky.social documents here.

The efforts of the Trump administration are the latter, creating uncomfortable & unsafe working conditions for federal employees who either practice a religion that is not Christianity—or no religion at all.”

NEW — RFK Jr.’s HHS sent out a survey asking employees to report instances of anti-Christian bias during the Biden administration, and the Dept. of Labor announced its inaugural prayer service. These are just the latest instances of Trump’s extreme Christian creep within the federal government.

On Monday, the University of Alabama suspended two student-run magazines over fears stemming from a July DOJ memo. The student journalists I spoke with yesterday told me that the decision was nonsensical and threatened their First Amendment rights.

1. Jared Kushner's trip to Moscow yesterday was not just unethical; it was illegal.

You cannot accept tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments and simultaneously conduct high-level diplomacy for the federal government.

It says it right in the Constitution.
Kushner’s Moscow mission wasn’t just corrupt. It was unconstitutional.
Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, has been traveling the world to participate in high-stakes foreign policy negotiations on behalf of the president.

No one would care about accommodations or most of the other problems, real or imagined, if top public university tuition was $5000/year. The public defunding & passing of costs onto families/students via tuition is at the root of the societal-wide panic about all things related to higher education.
As recently as the late 1980s, tuition at @uwmadison.bsky.social was <$1000/semester. In current dollars, that's about $2500/semester. There is one central reason for that: the . This was a choice. Other choices remain readily available.

This is very good, obviously, but I hope it doesn't make people complacent and think they don't have to do anything anymore. This is far from over and might take a generation (or more) to fix.

There ain't a corrupt politician this man won't pardon.

His belief that powerful people should get away with crimes is not the kind of bipartisanship we need.

i strongly, strongly believe that good writing is downstream of clear thinking and a strong understanding of the subject matter at hand. without fail, tortured writing comes from writers who don’t know and can’t think clearly about anything.
Oh man! This paragraph is brutal. The best thing about this review is it's not trying to be mean. It's just listing how bad the writing is.
