And will we just vote and wait for our reps to act on this? No. Will we push for ways to get some of this through actions like boycotts and protests and strikes? Hell, yes. Will this take the rest of our fucking lives? Yes, it will. Are we ready for that? Yes, we are, because we love our neighbors.

You know, generative AI is a cool parlor trick and impressive engineering went into it AND YET, oddly enough, I don’t think that’s worth it when weighed next to how it makes CSAM on demand and keeps talking people into psychotic breaks and no one has figured out how to stop either of those

This is the second account - the first being in Chicago - of DHS agents mass detaining people and then *sorting them by race*.
More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the FAA and Pentagon were reacting to a Mexican cartel drone entering U.S. airspace, a claim that was soon shown to be untrue.

has anything they say we should be scared of proven to be true?

i hope one of the downstream effects of what's happening now is more scrutiny on vague anti-trafficking campaigns that manifest mostly in public relations announcements where a big banks or something touts donating millions of dollars to police departments that no one ever hears about again

[frantically raising hand] ooh, ooh. I know. Because Americans have a constitutional right to vote but don't have a right to open a bank account or drive a car.
Mike Johnson: "Americans need an ID to drive, to open a bank account, to buy cold medicine, to file govt assistance, even to attend the DNC. So why would voting be any different? They can't answer that question."

a faulty, supplemental tool. a dull drill bit that will occasionally slip. not something for daily use and not ever on anything critical. not serious, a plaything.
The smart approach to LLMs would've been (and still is) to think of them as a supplemental tool. An aid, albeit one whose work still needs checking.

But the market and our money-hungry tech gods had to present it as a panacea—with no regard for the environmental or human toll. So here we are.
HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW: “.. In our in-progress research, we discovered that AI tools didn’t reduce work, they consistently intensified it.”
