Used to write about the Cubs.
Still post about the Cubs, as well as the Hawks and Bears.

The Pitt got greenlit for a season 3, out next February, and the announcement has very funny comment from HBO chairman Casey Bloys that’s like “yeah, turns out if you just make a TV show like how we used to make TV shows you can have a 15+ episode season every year 🤷‍♂️”

Bedard (and Bertuzzi net front) have been what's kept the Hawks afloat and at least on the fringes of the playoff race all season.
One of the things that's kept Chicago out of the basement of the standings so far this season is sparkling penalty-kill goaltending (not to mention the sharp power-play finishing)

I'm assuming this corresponds pretty well with the velo increases we've seen from pitchers across baseball.
hitters in their 40s nearly went extinct in 2018-2019. As it stands it'll be up to Carlos Santana to keep it going-

With the Hawks stacking the Bedard and Dickinson lines with their 6 best forwards (just to be clear I am not against this decision) it leaves the other two lines in pretty bad shape. The "2nd" line here is basically just another 4th line.
Moore is back in the top six. Still don't know what Burokovsky has done over the last month to still get top-6 time.

Ugh. I'm really in the mood for a sandwich for lunch but the local Caribbean sandwich shop isn't open on Tuesdays.

Nearing the reporting date for pitchers and catchers, then full ST will be just around the corner. Cubs have signed many MiLB deals with some interesting invites to camp included.
Still feel like the org is 1, maybe even 2 catchers short to fill out AA/AAA rosters. Maybe another IF and couple P too

Thoughts on Blackhawks pending UFAs heading into TDL:

Murphy - Dealt for a 2nd/3rd in 2027 or 28. Deserves a real playoff opportunity

Dickinson - Similar return with half retained

Mikheyev - Similar return with half retained if unwilling to extend for 1-2 years

Foligno - stays
Grzelcyk - stays

INBOX: @sbworkersunited.org is escalating its rolling strike by calling on supporters to delete the firm's popular app off their phones until it agrees to a contract. It's an ambitious move that will test the depth of popular support, given how much value users have tied up there in rewards points.

Donato-Dickinson-Mikheyev are having a big night.
The two wingers each having 4 point nights.
Donato with 2+2
Mikheyev with 1+3
Dickinson with 0+2

The crafty vet Orlov draws a phantom penalty on Bedard, negating a breakaway opportunity. Sharks to PP with Hawks clasping a 2 goal lead.
February 3, 2026 at 3:35 AM
Sharks now out shooting the Hawks and it's getting too close for comfort.
Now 5-3 Hawks with just under 18 minutes remaining.

If Hawks wanted to re-sign Dickinson and Mikheyev and then jettison Burakovsky into the sun you would receive zero complaints from me. I've had to put up with enough of his soft turnover crazy play for too long between the Hawks and Kraken.
GOAL. Celebrini. 5-2

The play started with Burakovsky being too easy on the puck....again.

That was a beauty by Celebrini.
5-2 Hawks

Hawks have almost scored as many goals (4) as they have allowed shots on goal (6). We are more than halfway through this one and Sharks have barely threatened offensively.
February 3, 2026 at 2:50 AM
Hawks with their 4th goal on just their 10th SOG. Rinzel this time. Nice to see a couple D scoring. Askarov getting pulled.
4-0 Hawks.
February 3, 2026 at 2:48 AM
What a goal by Donato!

3-0 Hawks.
February 3, 2026 at 2:43 AM
Connor Murphy sneaks one thru a screen and I don't think Askarov ever saw it.
2-0 Hawks
February 3, 2026 at 2:34 AM
4 combined PP but just 5 combined SOG between Hawks and Sharks in the 1st period.
Hawks hold Sharks to just 1 SOG.
I can't remember the last time they pulled off something like that.
1-0 Hawks.

It's important for Chicago to figure out a PP deployment with Bedard on this, his offside of the ice.
He found comfort driving downhill on his strongside early in year using his toe drag shot and finding Bertuzzi backdoor, but Hawks will want to work LH shot Frondell/Lardis one timers in future.
Power play goal for Chicago!

Scored by Connor Bedard with 13:00 remaining in the 1st period.

Assisted by Teuvo Teravainen and Tyler Bertuzzi.

Chicago: 1
San Jose: 0

I protest the Hawks over usage of Teräväinen at even strength, but I continue to push for him receiving PP1 time. That's where he produces offensively and the PP runs much smoother with him out there.
February 3, 2026 at 1:51 AM
Finally!

Hawks break through on the PP.
Who else?

Bedard

1-0 Hawks early

Fuck that guy. He'll never get another dime of my money. If I could take back the money I already gave him I certainly would. His books that I bought previously have all been banished to the lowest, most out of reach shelf I have, alongside the other writers who turned out to be pieces of shit.
Neil Gaiman attempting to sidle back into public after being buried in a pile of nauseatingly well-documented sexual abuse allegations is gross. Doing so by denying everything, linking to some guy's substack post, and limply teasing a new novel is so gross it's kind of funny

Forgot to post my monthly 2026 NHL Draft Rankings update yesterday.
Same top 10, albeit a slightly different order. Hemming and Björck emerging as most likely contenders to push into that group.
Struggling to find 1st round caliber players beyond the top 20-25 range this year.
