If you’re new here, here’s a little about me: I’m a licensed geologist and hydrogeologist in Washington State. I am also a certified K-12 math and earth/space science educator in WA. Science communication is my passion.
I mean, this is insane.
Another downside of spending ungodly amounts on the military is that you become prone to doing the things like this. It’s the international equivalent of leaving loaded assault rifles scattered around your house.

Really tired of the fact that the only thing standing in the way of prosperity for millions of Americans is how much we spend on wars and making oil companies richer. Can you imagine if we took even 10% of defense spending and put it towards education or healthcare?

It’s always the oil. 🙄
International law won't constrain Trump's thirst for oil. But every solar panel that goes up makes crude reserves that much less valuable

Just possibly it's the oil?

In our recent October poll, 2% of Americans said their primary source of news was CBS. They disapprove of Trump by a net 20 points.
I doubt a campaign against elites and academia — left-coded groups, in the Trumpian formulation — is going to help ratings www.gelliottmorris.com/p/what-your-...

My last black eyed peas attempt (it was also my first) went blah. We didn’t end up eating them.

This time I made Skinny Taste’s version and it is so good. Today is my first batch of leftovers and I really like it.

I really hope this is for someone else that I don’t like and not for me, personally. What an awful word to throw in. 🙄

Just checked with the experts and the Space Needle has not disappeared. It really is still there.

Happy New Year!

It’s still 2025 here in Washington State for the next 35 minutes. Watching 30 Rock and occasionally switch over to the CBC live feed for some delightful Canadian coverage instead of whatever it is we have here.

How much of the taxpayer dollars were wasted this time? Personally, I’d prefer universal healthcare instead of pomp but whatever.
I’m currently at the Washington Monument:

I am determined as God is my witness to start the Trump fake hand conspiracy theory. His hand isn't showing signs of an undisclosed illness. It's a fake painted Halloween costume hand because his hand was already removed. It's time.

What a jerk. Blocking access to clean drinking water because they won’t pardon a felon. Unanimously passed by Congress. A MAGA district, even (represented by Lauren Boebert).

Sorry MAGA folks. Hope you like salty, radioactive groundwater.

Ok hard to top this.

But for my “What was your biggest impact on the internet?”

I posted a photo I took of the Kolyma Highway, aka the Road of Bones in Siberia. It’s apparently the only pic of that that ever gets shared online.

Trump just vetoed a bill that would fund the completion of a project to bring clean drinking water to rural Colorado.

The bill was passed unanimously by the House and the Senate.

He did so in retaliation for the state refusing to release Tina Peters, who illegally tampered with voting machines.

Noticing a lot of brand new accounts popping up posting about Somali daycare fraud. Huh? These Russian disinformation bots are hitting bluesky hard, I guess.

Crime and fraud are bad, but I guarantee the entire Somali community is not a bunch of criminals.

Also, I generally don’t post about celebrity or political deaths, but Tatiana Schlossberg died of the same disease my dad did, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. My dad lived 8 months after his diagnosis but still, AML is the most lethal blood cancer.

I feel far more comfortable with the top list. Bonus points for knowing piezo as in "-electricity", and as in "-meter".

Of course, because I'm a geophysicist by schooling and a former physics teacher, but also a fan of the fiber arts, I do know most of the ones women are more likely to know.
