If you’re new here, here’s a little about me: I’m a licensed geologist and hydrogeologist in Washington State. I am also a certified K-12 math and earth/space science educator in WA. Science communication is my passion.
No idea if any of you are following along, but we successfully trapped 4 kittens and their mom. Had mom spayed Monday and just trapped the kittens today.

Job posting! Bellingham is one of my favorite places and WWU does solid hydrogeology research.
Job alert!!! My department (Geology at @wwu.edu ) is searching for a hydrogeologist at the assistant professor level (tenure track). Fabulous colleagues and students (undergrad and master's level), spectacular setting. Ping me with questions.

Also, kitten update. These are 3 of the 4 I need to trap. Mom is living in our garage after her spay surgery Monday.

Give it a couple of years. Isostatic rebound will take care of that. Well, and upwelling heat from magma, right?

Haven’t really been on here for awhile but hi. I’m trapping kittens this weekend and it is so stressful. 😩

Ahhh, fuck it. I'm just going to deactivate this, too.

Just deactivated my Facebook account. Feels pretty good.

Ok, I decided to unfollow a WHOLE LOT of people and news sources on here. Whew. I think things will still be informative but not as crazy to pull me in.

I am exploring ways in which to not be chronically online. I already deactivated my Instagram feed. I'm thinking I need to do the same for my Facebook account. I feel like I can't quit Bluesky even though its awful for my mental health though I feel like it's also critical to survival right now.

Everytime this guy talks about bringing water down from here to LA, I just want to yell at him.
Trump on LA: "They lost 25,000 houses to fires because they didn't have the water come down from the Pacific Northwest. They have a lot of water but they send it out into Pacific to protect a little tiny fish which did very badly when it didn't have any water, by the way."

Yep.
I’ve been thinking a lot today about a boss I had during the Boston bombing manhunt. I’d casually retweeted someone, and his narrowed eyes appeared over his screen.

“Do you know that person?”
“No.”
“Do you know what he tweeted to be true?”
“No.”
“Then don’t share it.”

Ok, seriously, even a google search is showing nothing but that Daily Beast article, a couple of reddit pages, and a bunch of British and Irish sites. It's been 3 hours. Speculation about Biden constantly but nothing when it's an obvious (VERY OBVIOUS) neuro event in the current president?
September 11, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Ahh, there it is.
September 11, 2025 at 10:01 PM
I'm shocked that no one is talking about Trump's droopy face on here. And when he's being interviewed by the media, he's only showing the left side of his face. People are saying (on reddit, so you know, take it with a grain of salt) he had a fairly significant stroke. Probably why he was MIA.

Maybe the reason all of the famous folks have said “political violence has no place” instead of “thoughts and prayers” is because Kirk had a history of normalizing violence against marginalized groups. Wow, not a nice guy.

Oh, and of course a reminder that Newsom agreed with him on trans folks. 🤮
Charlie Kirk has a history of violent and bigoted rhetoric. He was the first guest on California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s podcast.

Obviously, it’s awful that a political commentator was shot. What’s interesting is how we’ve gone from “thoughts and prayers” to “political violence is wrong” in the posts from famous people. This feels new.

And season 4 of Buffy they make fun of geology. WTF?
September 10, 2025 at 7:33 AM
Even on a random show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the geologist always dies. 🤣
