There are at least two, probably three house seats up for election THIS YEAR, as in 2025.

Shit is very bad. R voters are noticing. What can we do to try and move some needles?

We probably won’t pick up those seats. But we should be talking about them instead of variations of “told you so!”

Here we are, coming up on a month of this dark chaos and, I swear to god, this site seems almost entirely focused on hair on fire and finger pointing than actual action.

Like, my Facebook feed is more productive.

The smartest most dialed in people are supposedly here. So, what the fuck?

The most effective way to “rig” a vote is to convince people not to vote.

Shit like “if we even ever have elections again” is propaganda in service of voter suppression.

At least the robber barons built libraries and universities and concert halls. All we get now are shitty cars and memes.

I’m about to get super into states rights, I can feel it.

Yesterday, I saw a few “I’m willing to put my life on the lines” and “we need a revolt/strike/whatever” followed by some version of “I hope someone makes arrangements for me to do that.”

Oh, ok.

If you aren't motivated by hope, that's fine. Other people are, though, so don't bring them down to your level.

Keep your fatalistic nihilism to yourself, because we can't afford to discourage action at a time like this.

So, maybe I’m wrong, but Bluesky seems to be chockablock with people mad that democrats aren’t doing things and pretty thin on discussions of what people can do.

This seems cathartic for the rage high, but useless in the face of all the things.

I gotta get off the internet. Maybe forever.

Pretty sure we should try all the things and not shit on people who want to try the things we don’t think are the perfect thing.

There is no harm in doing more. Let people try stuff. We’re in crisis. JFC.

Many many years ago, during a particularly trying time, my dad, an occasional service attendee, just grabbed his tallit and kippah and said “I’m going to shul.”

I always thought it was a nice moment, sort of quaint. But now I get the urge so fiercely I can taste it.

I’m nobody. Just a kind of smart person who sometimes does good things and sometimes screws up. But I think, no, I believe, that what we need is less jockeying to be the smartest or cleverest. Less haughty self righteousness and a hell if a lot more compassion and clearheadedness.

The urge to scream “fucking told you so” over and over into the void is strong. Really really fucking strong.

For the record, anyone who said that “both parties are the same” can kiss my entire ass.

I wanted to spend my fifties fighting for improvements, not fighting for the actual existence of the country.

Any four Republican Senators could stop this at any time simply by threatening to block all action (or even caucus with the Democrats) if Trump doesn't make certain concessions.

They won't, but that should be a much bigger story than whether the Democrats are doing everything that *they* can.

“Nobody is doing anything” is propaganda in service of “just give up.”

this is exactly what i’m getting at when i see these people have no understanding of civil society. they do not seem to conceptualize other people as having agency whatsoever.

If lots and lots of people are talking about something, stop fucking asking why nobody is talking about it. Start talking about actions. JFC.

Bluesky isn’t useful to me now. Everyone tells me it’s the place for next steps, but every time I log on I see buckets of fatalism. Maybe it’s me. Maybe it’s my algorithm. But it hurts me. It makes me feel hopeless.

I am not made for hopelessness.

These are Emergency Times.

Instead of being a snarky critic of someone busy trying to actually do work towards creating less suffering in this world, spend YOUR time doing work to create less suffering.

Organize. Fundraise. A wealth of ways to help.

"Reply guy" isn't a helper role, though. FYI

As a Jew I don't belive in superstition because believing in it would bring bad luck.
A small correction here. Supernatural beliefs are absolutely an important part of Jewish thought and philosophy. But... they are not boundaries on being a religious Jew, which is based on actions.
See? Here’s that reductionism you claimed you didn’t engage in. Some religious communities focus primarily on ritual, community, and practice to the point that supernatural beliefs don’t matter at all

Before the presidential election, I was assured by some of the loudest voices I know that this was going to kick off a revolution.

So, I guess I just want to note that doomer posts on social media aren’t revolutionary.

Don't just post.

Demand they fight.

I just did.
You can, too.
