I was prepared for the fascism, but I wasn't prepared for so many of my friends, family, and neighbors to think I'm crazy and overreacting about said fascism.

The only people who seem to truly recognize the danger we're in are my husband, two best friends, and my incredibly Appalachian granddaddy.

Climate science is under direct attack in the United States like never before.

If they can successfully gut climate research and grants, they’ll come for scientists and activists next — and not just to diminish our credibility.

They fully intend to arrest us, and that’s why I’m preparing for.

Don’t want toilet rats?

Become a climate activist!
Heavy rains in Washington State this month prompted officials to warn about flooded roadways, water damage to homes and one rare potential consequence: toilet rats.
Toilet Rats: Rare, but There
Heavy rains have prompted public health officials in Washington to warn residents about toilet rats, a rare plumbing nightmare that drives frantic calls to pest control experts.

"Attempting to erase a country’s scientific heritage, as the Trump administration is now trying to do, should be of concern to every US citizen. Because if climate science is viewed with disfavor today, other fields of scientific inquiry might be next in line for the chopping block."—Ben Santer.
Threatening NCAR, Trump administration seeks to extinguish a beacon of climate science
The Trump administration’s world view is that the US doesn’t need a climate science brain trust because it doesn’t like what the brains say.

Big Oil is selling the promise of “low-carbon data centers” using carbon capture, reports @emdashsanders.bsky.social.

But these plans could "easily transform into a sprawling build-out of high-polluting methane gas infrastructure" with lasting impacts to "the climate and communities nearby."
Exxon’s new greenwashing ploy
The oil giant claims it can eliminate more than 90 percent of emissions from gas-powered AI facilities. Critics say that’s nonsense.

Being a climate activist also means being an anti-war activist — especially when your country keeps starting wars and destabilizing economies just to secure more oil!!

This is what happens when the fossil fuel industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars to influence elections in their favor.
This evening, as communities across Washington state are reeling from historic flooding, DOE issued an emergency order directing continued operation of a Washington coal plant that would have closed by the end of the year due to a new state law banning coal-powered electricity generation.

The United States wants to go to war over oil again.

Let’s all demand that Congress stop hostilities before it’s too late.

It literally took a minute to take action.

I just read the news that there is a direct passenger rail route being developed between England and Germany.

I often travel between the UK and the mainland when I'm in Europe for work, and this would make those trips so much more sustainable (and enjoyable).

No more train/bus/ferry hopping!

Every time a climate scientist says we shouldn’t worry about generative AI and the data centers needed to run it, the movement loses potential activists.

Just because these data centers aren’t major emitters, doesn’t mean they won’t cause environmental injustices or emissions to rise.

So many drivers are complaining that my city redid a street to be curvy and to have raised intersections.

They’re complaining that they can’t speed on that street anymore which is the whole point!!

This street was redesigned to be a pedestrian-friendly commercial street — not a drag strip.

I’m officially done with Threads.

Despite having a larger following there, I won’t be posting there anymore. It’s not worth it when my entire feed and most replies to my posts are ragebait, bots, and trolls.

I did the same with Twitter years ago, so hopefully Bluesky will be better!

I’m officially too old to understand what kids are saying online. I just had to have a young person translate this comment for me.

It means: “This shit pissed me off so much, are you for real right now? Ain’t no way💀”

Apparently the kids do not like that lighted fishing nets reduce bycatch..

I’m still pissed that the COP30 agreement didn’t include text about phasing out fossil fuels, but I don’t want you to think that no progress happened in Belém.

That’s why I cover four of my favorite stories from COP30 in the latest edition of Good Climate News which now has over 24,000 subscribers!

Young people are messaging me again that they’re getting suicidal over climate change — and they’re citing many climate scientists who use this app as the reason why they believe things are hopeless.

Please please please be mindful of the way you communicate climate issues. It’s causing apathy.
