One thing I noticed about these Democratic wins across the board is that the candidates varied across the left-wing spectrum—from Democratic Socialism (Mamdani) to “Blue Dog” center of left (Spanberger).

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

Mamdani's victory wasn't only a repudiation of an old and exhausted political establishment in the city, it was also a triumph over the framing power of the political press, and none more so than the New York Times, whose coverage and editorials worked relentlessly to dampen his appeal.

What’s implicit about these constructions is that a person who puts this much attention into renovating a house they don’t personally own and is supposed to leave after a few years is someone who probably isn’t planning to leave

The consensus is that there's a plateau on religion's decline, not a "revival", but I do think something is activating the ones in Gen Z who lean religious.

Is there religious revival among Gen Z?
PITTSBURGH (RNS) — There’s a swell in Christian devotion at the University of Pittsburgh amid claims of national revival, but some researchers say ‘revival’ is too strong a word.

A good time to remind folks that 9 times out of 10 editors usually choose the headline, not the journalist/writer.

But yea, a little deceptive.
Another meretricious headline from the New York Times: This whole package strains to jam John Favreau into this narrative in which both sides are equally to blame for scoring political points before the facts are in. But what did Favreau actually *do*?

I swear I can't think of a better (worst?) time for me to get a master's in International Political Theory than now.

The person who outwardly flaunts themselves as all-powerful is usually the one with the least amount of power.
Trump to the UN: "I'm really good at this stuff. Your countries are going to hell."

I know I shouldn't have been surprised, but when I heard that Chris Tomlin sang at Charlie Kirk's funeral/political rally (let's be honest, it was more of a rally than a funeral), I was deeply disappointed.

His songs I grew up worshipping to are even more tainted with right-wing authoritarianism.

One thing to remember about the rising tide of authoritarianism in the U.S. is that, if we get through this, we need a robust conversation about the Executive Branch’s decades-long power expansion.

And to what extent we should decrease it.

This gets said a lot, but the irony of not caring about immigration until you’re actually affected doesn’t escape me.

Lately, it's starting to feel like the McCarthy era has returned. Earlier last May, I interviewed @risenc.bsky.social about his book "Red Scare: Blacklists, McCarthyism, and the Making of Modern America," and I keep thinking about this interview.

go read anything about how Jim Wallis or Tony Campolo (not heroes, just examples) were treated the moment they started to stray from company line on abortion/LGBTQ+ matters. Let alone not white men. Seriously, just read about how Call to Renewal or the Evangelical Immigration Table fractured.

Friends, If there's any moment in my lifetime that I feel that the U.S. constitutional amendments for the freedoms of the press and speech are in danger, it's now.

For my part, I'm going to do what I do best: Write, critique, report and say what's on my mind while I still have the right to do so.

As someone who works in this nonprofit space, Trump has been working to dismantle progressive nonprofits and its funding sources since he was re-elected. It is a major part of his agenda and it has nothing to do with Charlie Kirk.
In a Hitleresque speech, JD Vance says there can be no unity with the left and vows to use the government to dismantle non-profit NGOs and liberal civil society who he says promote violence and terrorism.

I've never heard of a sitting VP or Pres hosting another TV program in this capacity before.
incredibly dangerous speech here from the vice president. likely it will make violence worse, not better. (also happens to be a complete lie) www.gelliottmorris.com/p/americas-r...
