new police version of what police did to Muslims praying at Town Hall just dropped. This is why we never believe what police say, and why the dominant media culture of Police Say reporting is both grotesquely irresponsible and intentionally spreads disinformation.

Officer allowed men to pray before they were removed from rally, police say
A group of Muslim men had already received police permission to worship during a Sydney protest before they were disrupted mid-prayer by officers, NSW Police Force confirms.

There is something rotten in the state of NSW under Premier Minns and both these articles from the SMH are worth a read

As a first generation Australian whose parents migrated here, this doesn’t sit well with me.
However it is also financial sense that immigration provides a net positive economic impact over the medium to long term to Australia

First Nations peoples in this country need a Head of State so every time there’s a death in custody or an attack by racists the government can invite them to Canberra and explain their response, and so there is someone to publicly represent the community’s shared grief and mourning.

Absolutely huge crowd in Melbourne right now.

People from all backgrounds, ages and professions - united in opposition to genocide and war.

This is what social cohesion looks like.

I went out before today's Herzog protest at Parliament and saw this massive police surveillance tower. This is completely unnecessary, and intimidating, at a peaceful protest. Police need to be protecting protesters, not snooping on them, or attacking them.

A side note to the Meanjin news: it’s nice to see Brisbane retain its title as Secret HQ of Auslit

hard to overstate how typical it is to open the newsfeed or switch on the radio or TV/ABC and hear white males who were not there talking to white males who were not there dominating the discourse. This is completely routine in my personal 56 years lifetime experience in Australia.
"interaction with police" what are we doing here?

Social coercion
We'll say it again: "social cohesion", to those who chant it, means maintenance of the status quo which privileges them, and silencing of everyone else. In the mouth of a Labor MP, it is an expression of the deepest hypocrisy.
