I love working longhand. The rough draft happens by accretion, almost unseen. A physical process, embedded with the marks of mood and energy and memory. More like carving or knitting something than typing.

“Lessons have been learned” - I hope so. And if so, it’s only because writers stood together for a colleague, and spoke up against this ridiculous overreach by a festival sponsor. That collective power is the more important lesson.
