I love this story so much. The pacing, the characters, the whole thing.
Today from our neurodiversity reprints issue, A CHORUS DIVERGENT: "Possession" by Taylor Jones, a story in which a neurodiverse person and her elite trained rat save the world by making friends with a globe-spanning fungal entity: reckoning.press/possession/
Possession | Reckoning
Khopesh tugs against her harness, ready to go. She’s a good sniffer, food-motivated and eager to work for treats. Like most sniffers, she’s an African giant pouched rat, about as long as my forearm if...

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

This Black Friday, if you are able, please shop local and small businesses *only.*

Consumers cannot continue rewarding these billionaires. We're helping to fund the architects of this administration and big donors. And they show no signs of ending their cruelty.

Inflation is so bad Americans are counting on Black Friday just to afford groceries and everyday essentials
"Black Friday is still a make-or-break moment for retailers, but shopper behavior is shifting," says Lightspeed Commerce founder and CEO Dax Dasilva.

Over 80% of the world’s people want their governments to “do more” to address climate change, and nearly two-thirds are on board with that action costing them a bit. Yet, this majority believes its a minority due to media's climate silence. -- @thenation.com

The Media Is Complicit in the Climate Confusion
The vast majority of people want their governments to take climate action—but most wrongly think they’re in the minority. The media is partly to blame.

A bunch of writer friends are noting that they have not used LLMs to write. Me either, absolutely not. I feel like we need to stop asking kids what they want to BE when they grow up and start asking them what they want to DO. Because: I am not here to BE A WRITER, I am here to WRITE.

WHAAAT THE FUUUUCK
1. In a devastating decision for trans kids in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee, the 6th Circuit has ruled students can bully trans kids by repeatedly misgendering them.

Trans kids also are not allowed to return the favor to their bullies.

A perfect example of the (anti) logic of capitalism is trying to invent robotic bees for agricultural pollination rather than shifting to an agro-ecological model of producing food that doesn't destroy biodiversity.

Boggling thing about this is … that’s a house sparrow. The most successfully human-adapted and widespread species on earth perhaps with the exception of the brown rat. Idk but it sure feels like art for a human rendering of a house sparrow to emerge from ashes after 2000 years
This little bird survived a volcanic eruption!

Buried by volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, this Roman fresco of a little bird pecking at fruit re-emerged looking as delightful as it did some 2,000 years ago!

FINALLY seeing the techlash against AI
(I've been fighting this from the jump)

I think the tech industry pissed people off endlessly, shoved AI into everything, and then inadvertently gave people a physical thing they could focus their anger on.
Data center fights are already activating so many young people on the left.

One activist fighting data centers in Texas told me he started getting involved in the opposition because he didn’t have “the clout” to stop “the genocide” in Gaza, but he could maybe stop the data centers… @heatmap.news
The Data Center Backlash Is Swallowing American Politics
Activists on both the left and the right are pushing back against AI development.
