A man told me yesterday that it was important to "take emotion out of the equation“ when analysing the situation in the US, at which point I told him very calmly that "a woman who disagrees with you is not necessarily emotional".

Ladies, it was a breakthrough.

I should have done this years ago.

What Trump said about allied soldiers is nothing new. He’s always been envious of people who had courage because he has always been a coward. Demeaned McCain & POWs, Gen Kelly confirmed he called DDay KIA troops “suckers & losers”, said he always wanted to “win” a Purple Heart.

The so-called "party of free speech" sure does hate free speech.
Newly unsealed evidence makes it even clearer that Rubio and Noem knew they were targeting students based solely on their political speech and that they knew this policy was unconstitutional. They just didn’t care. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/22/u...

Trump is weak, Bondi is weak, Miller is weak. The administration is filled with cartoon bullies who crumple when they face real opposition. Minnesotans get it. Denmark gets it. Lower court judges get it, and the best have moved into DGAF mode. When will SCOTUS get it? slate.com/news-and-pol...

Minnesota Nice is a real thing. I've been there twice: both times nice.
I've been thinking a lot lately about what the Trump administration is doing to the Republican party in states like MN and OR (the state I'm most familiar with). One thing I've noticed is that OR Republicans seem to be slowly reckoning with the fact that their brand has become toxic to voters.
If the admin's strategic goal was to break public resistance to immigration enforcement activities, it was a tactical mistake to go to the Twin Cities.

Trump’s now busy issuing a blizzard of endorsements on Truth Social of many candidates who are running unopposed or in R+30 or more districts so he can later claim that they only won because of him.

Frosty the No Man! Never Knowingly Right!
I really love that Frost had this published hours before Trump crossed a line that has forced even fanboys to pivot.

To appropriate Buffet's investment maxim, when they tide goes out, it becomes very easy to spot whose arse is hanging out.

Before ICE, I never realized how much of "keeping the public safe" involved wrecking cars.
ICE just crashed a car at my intersection (due to their own shitty driving) and immediately got out and tear gassed observers.

I'm sure this will improve morale at CBS News.
— Israel kills 3 journalists, including CBS contributor
— AFP, the other impacted outlet, condemns killing & calls for investigation
— CBS doesn't, instead peddles Israel's claim that they were targeting a group with "a drone affilliated with Hamas"

Inside the Bari Weiss-led CBS response:
Bari Weiss’s CBS News Won’t Even Condemn Israel for Killing a CBS Contributor
Instead, the network’s new top anchor Tony Dokoupil peddles Israel’s talking points about it killing a Palestinian journalist. A CBS source calls it a ‘disgrace.’
