Does anyone ever actually use Apple's Books app on the desktop? Asking, because here's the grid view, and then the list view. Why, why isn't the list view all text and much more information dense?

When he showed up to an immigration meeting in Memphis, Kasper Eriksen thought he was on the verge of becoming a citizen.

Then ICE arrested the Mississippi father of four, not even giving him a chance to say goodbye to his wife, whisking him away to a prison.

Federal spending is *up* under Trump according to the Wall Street Journal. Chaos is not actually the same as cost savings.

Actual budgeting is a kind of actual policy-making and takes real work spread over real time. Running around breaking stuff isn't that.

It’s all smoke & mirrors.

What disturbs me is how many decades Republicans have managed to pull off this “fiscal conservative” masquerade to a never-questioning public.

I think it’s something of an open question what a good deal looks like. Enforcement mechanism against impoundment is tricky on account of: it’s already illegal.

but at minimum DOGE has got to go.

Just saw my CPA to do my taxes this week and he was freaking out about DOGE firing 6000 IRS workers during tax season. ("where do they think the money comes from!?")

I should have told him to call Congress.

👀 Trump in remarks to the House GOP just now promises no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security, no tax on overtime + an extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts.

That is, at minimum, an $8.95 TRILLION increase to the national debt for a tax bill.

So far, no talk about paying down the debt.

I have struggled with how to respond to Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook's descent into toxic masculinity and Neo-Nazi madness. While I have thought about quitting Facebook, I find great value in the connections and friends I have here, and it doesn't seem fair that I should lose that 1/4

Over the past 4–5 years, Facebook has sunset tools (chiefly CrowdTangle) used by researchers and journalists, made data difficult and expensive to get, and iced out academics studying disinformation.

Now, it's shutting down the fact checking on its platform.

This is where I break w/“misinformation”. People are torturing that term bc it was once less fraught. Not political. About facts.

This is propaganda. This is how propaganda functions.

And the incentives for influencers ($ & clout) led to a proliferation -anyone can pick a niche and do this.
