Complexity of thought is something I’ve been studying for quite some time as someone who supports deep thinkers with big jobs.

I think it has implications for a lot of societal/culture change and I don’t really see it being mentioned (it’s quite niche tbh).

So here’s a thread.

I LOVE threads like this. Yes, give me all your special interest analyses.
So they found a 125,000 yr old Neanderthal fat rendering plant & I have thoughts.

Knowing that they loved saturated fat SO MUCH that they industrialized to get as much of it as humanly possible?

Makes me feel seen, heard, supported, etc www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Neanderthals intensively processed a minimum of 172 large mammals for grease and marrow fat, 125,000 years ago.

Dersh has been banging this drum since Trump1 & the really good news is: ostracism works, even on the shameless.

Tons of people miss this--the shameless are hyper-sensitive to stigma.

Civil society should use this free, non-violent tool to punish destructive people a lot more often. It works.
Dershowitz says he’s suing the Martha’s Vineyard Farmer’s Market after the pierogi guy refused to sell to him yesterday because he defends Trump. He complains that he’s also banned from the MV book fair, library, synagogue, and can’t get invited to any parties.

85% of young men support Zohran Mamdani.
79% of young women support Zohran Mamdani.
67% of Jewish people aged 18-44 support Zohran Mamdani.

Would you have guessed *any* of that with how the media has covered all this?

@the-independent.com has now scrubbed two articles exposing the bigotry of a nurse spearheading an anti-Trans+ legal crusade

When media outlets censor their own factual reporting to placate extremists, they’re not just failing themselves and the public, they’re undermining democracy itself
The Independent pulled this one, as well
I don't know what is going on with that other Independent Sandie Peggie tribunal article, but they published this a couple of hours ago. Keep an eye in case it goes the same way

One thing this world is showing me is that my peace, my joy, my comfort, my determination cannot depend on external events.
It has to come from 'inside', from connection to something greater.

These tears are from letting go of a world that can ever be carefree. But beauty, warmth, love persist.

I will never not understand how a minority of people have decided that wind farms - significantly prettier than pylons, coal power plants, nuclear power plants, and almost certainly fusion power plants - are ugly. In terms of energy generation, what else are you hoping for that is better?
On holiday, I notice that there are wind turbines on the shore of Lake Garda, which very much makes me think that residents with a view of some incredibly mid Cotswold or other can put a sock in it.

"obscure south asian channel" is fuckin hilarious he did an interview with News18 which hits about 180 million people a week they get more eyeballs in a night than the NYT gets in a year
The strategy is striking. Zohran has been doing interviews w/ South Asian television, Pakistani news channel, Punjabi TV, Bangla newspaper, and more.

“We are going to heavily feature him in these places throughout the fall,” a Zohran adviser tells me. 6/

Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.
“Wikipedia is this economic anomaly. In many ways, it’s sort of magical that people will just volunteer without explicit economic incentives to create artifacts that are meant to share knowledge with everyone in the world”
