Elf enjoyer, fountain pen & ink dork, loves shouting and fantasy novels and shouting about fantasy novels. Sometimes I post pictures of my ridiculous dogs. Pretty sure my Axolotl is actually Ursula Vernon’s. She/her. Shiny. High strung.
Not enough authors have the courage to go full Ellcrys and more should.
Imagine if Game of Thrones had ended with Jon Snow turning into a dragon and the Azor Ahai prophecy turning out to refer to the sex worker Joffrey murdered (who comes back to life as a flaming butterfly) and her fiery wings take out the ice zombies but meanwhile Bran is a magic tree

I choose to take this as a positive omen.

My only New Year’s resolution is to track the books I read each month. I’m trying a quick list in the weeklies of my agenda to see how that works, but I’ve got a backup notebook on standby in case I need to make more notes.

PUT SOME TINSEL ON YOUR SQUID is what I’m going to use as the opening sentence in all of my new notebooks from now on
H) As I said above, execution is all. Start with a prologue if you want, start with a dream if you want. Sprinkle your story with footnotes, yank that god out of the machine, put some tinsel on your squid and place it proudly on the mantelpiece, whatever. Just aim to do it as well as you can.

This is my second favorite picture that I am just out of frame
BEHOLD, all three dogs in the same place at the same time!

And it is HILARIOUS that Rufus looks smallest boi here, both through perspective and the fact that it is cold and he has only one coat.

"The USPS posted a $9 billion loss" is an interesting way to phrase "The USPS cost each american $25.94 last year."
🚨SCOOP: Amazon is preparing to sever ties with USPS and expand its shipping network as a true coast-to-coast rival.

It could cost USPS more than *$6 billion* a year in lost revenue, and lead Amazon to dominate yet another facet of the economy.

FYI I feel it important to note that Mira is officially Mira-approved (at least to my face, May Hong could have been lying, which is her right), and while I need to soap photo before those are posted you will find the fragrances here:

Some reflections on my first year of publishing Love Letters: Reasons to Be Alive. What an incredible year it has been. How very, very lucky I am.

(Unsurprisingly, content notes here for frank discussions of grief and suicidality.)

Holding onto "masochistic epistemology" as a great specific thing to name and keep an eye on, here.
It's why we fall for masochistic epistemology: truth hurts, so if it hurts, it must be true. It's not. It's just easier to *believe*, because it takes 5x as many positive things to equal the weight of one negative, and we don't stop to balance it out, we just take it in.

Our last Patreon episode of the year is extra-long & entirely unhinged. It starts before we even do an intro and it ends 25 minutes after Austin says "is that it?"

We've got it all: Trailer reactions. Mid 2000s politics. Fan Casting our OWN holiday special. ENJOY!

I'm a firm believer that this liminal period between the holidays and New Year's is how we're supposed to live. It's peak existence.

May the word "efficiency" die in 2026 and all its horrible relatives "innovating" to solve the perceived problems of rest, joy, creativity, and humanity.

A gentle and lovingly-meant plea from your writer relatives. You want to give us something useful, and that’s very thoughtful. We appreciate it. But please, if you want to give us notebooks, make them anything but those handmade ones with rough paper and the stiff leather cover with a tie round it.

Think good thoughts for me, I am finally clearing out and throwing out the boxes my fountain pens came in

This will free up an entire bookshelf and I am having hoardly panic thoughts “what if I decide to sell one of the limited editions and need the box??” No. Stop. That won’t happen.

This is one of the few paintings I’ve done outdoors. I felt the need to paint near real trees with their mottled shadows falling on the ground around me.
