I wonder whether he mentioned Edward VIII as part of his tours of Buckingham Palace.

'His trajectory exposes how extremist views can pervade all strata of society, including inside one of Britain’s most protected institutions, and illustrates how far-right networks are coordinating across borders'.

This picks up what Robert Frost argues elsewhere is an emotive difference behind Polush's two words for republic

Republika is a term applied to other countries

Rzeczpospolita is applied only to Poland, & (in the historical context) often translated into Eng as 'Commonwealth'

I've always said Poland deserves far greater recognition & appreciationn than it often recieves, but this isn't what I had in mind.

Such praise from the far right gives a completely false impression of what the country thinks.

It does, however, highlight what today's Independencence Day march is.

Will Poland reciprocate & open a South Korean office to promote the cultural phenomenon that is Disco Polo?
South Korea has opened an office in Warsaw for promoting its cultural exports and fostering collaboration on content creation.

"We want Poland to become a hub connecting Central and Eastern Europe with East Asia," says KOCCA, the state creative content agency.

This is quite a fun story.

A group of Belarusians has run a route around Poland to trace a map of the country as a gesture of thanks in the lead up to Independence Day on November 11th.

Interesting article on how ignorance, conspiracy theories, & arguing with established facts are not only praised, but desired

The pejorative use of Dark Ages is annoying, however. It's not revisionist to say the medieval world understood science, hygene, reason etc
In age of demons, we must fight to enlighten
The ease with which the world has slipped back into superstition shows how badly we need the crusading spirit of 18th-century Enlightenment thinkers

“A new wave of nostalgia-bait content is going viral, and it’s broken containment – it has spread well beyond Facebook, popping up on X, YouTube, and TikTok. Much of it is obviously ‘slop’. But most notably and horrifyingly of all, it isn’t aimed at boomers – it is aimed squarely at millennials.”
Why Facebook is suddenly full of nostalgia for the recent past
Millennials used to mock their parents’ sepia-tinted Facebook posts. Now they’re the ones yearning for a simpler time - before student debt and existential angst
