While I understand people are skeptical of the Steam Machine as being too wonky to make a dent in PlayStation or Nintendo, I absolutely see a scenario in which it replaces Xbox, which does not seem to be difficult at this point.

How to really make a splash at your annual niche professional conference

tier A: bring llama

tier X: integrate llama into your presentation

tier S: expense the llama
There's a guy at the entomology conference who is really leaning on the chaotic side of the definition of what a "bug" is.

Fuck that, don't let the Suica penguin die.
The Suica penguin has been the face of JR East's popular IC transit card since its inception in 2001. Now, the company says it will replace the iconic character with an as-yet-unannounced mascot. That's left fans both perplexed and irate.

`float` and `int` are two distinct types

but if you write `x: float` that actually means `x: float | int`. but if you write `x: float | int` that means `x: float | int | int`...

Just released quick-junit 0.5.2, containing (from what I can tell) the first industrial-strength (i.e. with fuzzing and roundtrip property-based testing) JUnit XML parser for Rust!

quick-junit's serializer is used by cargo-nextest.

I think it's really interesting how the visual language of video is changing over time. it's a very specific choice to have this shot handheld in a hallway while walking

like, they could've shot this with a tripod at his desk, but, that's not the right vibe for the current era

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Just published a new post on what I've been up to professionally for the past five months: maxdeviant.com/posts/2025/h...

It's fairly high-level, but I'd love to do some more deep-dives on some of the learnings from rebuilding Zed's backend.
