Errol Morris uses this technique effectively, but he has a very specific style that makes it work.
So it's decided: Every documentary will begin with the subject getting miked in a sit-down interview, idle chit-chat with the offscreen director, and then cutting to the title card after they ask, "Have we started?"

Seeing a lot of stuck cars out on the roads in DC this morning, I’d avoid driving for a while if you can.

It is a horrible thing but one of the *points* of non-violence is that state violence in response causes outrage to spread.

Do me a favor and tell your loved ones you love them today.
Not sure the right way to share this kind of thing with one’s imaginary internet friends, but my mom died yesterday and I’m sad. My dad, brother, kids, and I all got to spend a lot of time with her over her last days and she went peacefully.

Goodbye, mom. I love you. I’m going to miss you a lot.

If you’re also the kind of person who has a brain that feels like a radio with the volume perpetually turned up too high, I can recommend an Appalachian Trail thru-hike as an (admittedly drastic) source of relief. A month in and my mind felt quiet for the first time I could ever remember.
Thanks! It was truly life changing. Felt more at peace those months than any other time in my life.

On January 6, my kid was at a park with her day camp a few blocks away from the Capitol when the building was stormed, and the hour or so until we got her home was the most terrifying time of my life. Fuck all of those treasonous motherfuckers.

Anyway, seeing other people talk about their sobriety was one thing that helped me finally get sober, so I’ll just say that I hadn’t had a drink in 4 years, 1 month, and 9 days, and I’m grateful for every one of those days. DMs always open if anyone wants to talk.

One of the stories I tell in meetings is having a real “oh no” moment when I looked up the actual definition of heavy drinking and saw it was anything more than an average of 2 drinks per day.
