First official Bluesky post. I’m a crazy leftist who’s decided not to keep my political and professional life separate anymore. Figured this was the safest time to do that. I've worked in academia and tech, but I am hoping to transition to research in the political field, you know, for job security.

I just saw an ad for an external charger that said "Have you noticed that wealthy people in Shanghai never carry phone chargers?" and all I thought was, yes I have. All my friends have. We spend hours talking about how wealthy people in Shanghai never carry phone chargers. HOW DO THEY DO IT?

In this study of 220 #trans adolescents who received gender affirming medical care, only 4% expressed any regret about treatment, and half of those continued with treatment, suggesting the benefits outweighed the downsides.

The way this article describes the plot, the people who work do it as a symbol of respecting work, as if everyone else is lazy, even though, through technology, it seems no one actually needs to work. The fact that that is what one of the first "AI movies" is about is both funny, dark, and gross.

This framing, where Dems/libs should avoid being “condescending” to the right, is one of the ways the media sells Dems/libs on the false idea that we’re higher status & have more power than the political right.
Klein is also obsessed with solving Democrats’ “condescension problem” but it’s not condescending to talk about how your political opponents are wrong! That’s kind of how it works.
