There's been a few books on how the CIA influenced lit during the red scare years and Iowa was involved- when I taught there that was well known and talked about. But the proliferation of MFA culture, I think, has done the most damage to working class literature in our current era. Classism, etc.

i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
