Best mural 2025 🏆

Banksy’s mural at London's Royal Courts of Justice, depicting a judge hitting a protester with a gavel, symbolizing the state's ever growing suppression of dissent, was made even more powerful by it being scrubbed out within hours by the authorities.

I think the key to answering this question is understanding Starmer/Reeves unpopularity among natural allies. A majority of Laboir voters disapprove of him, as do large majorities of LD/Green voters. Hostility from natural political opponents is normal. Hostility from natural supporters is not.
Glad the FT is asking the question. Even if I’m not convinced they found a compelling answer.
I get that Starmer & Reeves are unpopular, I really don’t understand the extent of the dislike.

Living through the Age of Cunts is so tiresome.

When can we have the Age of Nice, Pleasant, Kind, Chill, Peace?

Will we EVER have it?

This timeline sucks Donkey ass.

I need a drink. Is it too early for a Pina Colada?

🧵 Maybe you ask yourself why Israelis turn out to be genocidal even at a young age

As a person who grew up in the Israeli education system, there’s a number of reasons for it:

1. The Nakba is seen as an actual celebration ("Independence Day") occupation of lands is a national pride

2. Teaching about Palestinian atrocities is actually illegal by law

3. The Israeli map usually has the West Bank and even Gaza annexed to it (Greater Israel).

3. Some teachers actively promote the activities of illegal settlements on stolen land

4. Palestinians are seen as some sort of a burden or invaders

5. The IDF actually go to schools to teach students to be criminal soldiers

6. Religious schools are heavily influenced by fascist rethorics, teaching kids Bible more than Math, English or Science

7. The schools usually prefer obedience over critical thinking. For example: the independence of the judicial branch and international law are barely being discussed . Instead, students need to memorize Jewish or military laws and norms

Liberals affect to be puzzled by it all. Resorting to cliches like 'broken politics', 'electoral volatility', an 'ungovernable Britain' as cover for ignoring the elephant in the room: an ideologically bankrupt economic system, neoliberalism, designed to dramatically increase poverty and inequality.
If you crawl for years on your stomach to people who hate you, begging for their indulgence, while relentlessly insulting and deliberately offending people who might be inclined to support you - while offering almost nobody anything they want - then you are going to be deeply unpopular.

The next few years will see unprecedented unemployment, homelessness, and inequality in the West as AI makes billionaires even richer and the rest of us even poorer. I have no idea how you can offer "bold change" to counter that if you're terrified of offending those same billionaires.
The government is being squeezed between twin populisms of the right and of the left.

We need to confront both, and to deliver bold change that improves lives and tackles inequality.

Good to speak to @guardianheather.bsky.social at @theguardian.com about our work at @thefabians.bsky.social.

Maybe they should have asked disabled people, brown people, refugees, essential immigrant workers (who are leaving), full time workers who have to use food banks, trans people, 4.5mn kids in poverty, peaceful protesters.

Instead they just asked the baffled white middle class who can afford the FT.
Glad the FT is asking the question. Even if I’m not convinced they found a compelling answer.

The fact that comments are turned off tells you that for Duncan and other people in the Westminster bubble, they know they can easily find out why he is so hated, they just don't want to hear it.

What possible explanation could there be for this, other than making the conditions and suffering of Palestinians even more horrific and accelerating the genocide?

Staggering how many people who clearly think themselves deeply intelligent and sensible are so completely baffled by something so obvious.

If you can't understand why Starmer and co are so hated, you need to stop discussing politics and go do something easier, because this is really basic stuff.

2025 was the year corporate political power went into uncontrolled overdrive.
Unless we rise up, and rid ourselves of what can only be described as a cancer on democracy, 2026 will be even worse.

The current systems in place are unsustainable for the majority of decent people around the world, 2026 must be the year where we enact solutions that rewrite how wealth distribution functions, and curb undue corporate influence on MPs.

They haven't just infiltrated governments...they've hijacked our information streams and manufactured and manipulated propaganda vehicles inimaginable just a few years ago.

It's going to be quite a 'battle' to get the message out there.

Good job no one’s ever actually said that - including me.

So why is Labour again repeatedly lying to avoid taxing the super-rich?

You have to ask whether Joe got where he is today through skill, talent, insight, keen intellect and study or by being Harriet Harman’s son. Until that question is answered, doesn’t really feel like I need to give too much credence to his opinions.
