Yo, amusing dogs aside, can I urge you to persevere with Supergirl? I've just seen the last ever episode with a feeling of satisfaction and beautiful closure. But there are some frustrating earlier episodes where they make a pickle of the Multiverse. It's worth the effort!

Washington Monument in D.C. from my visit in April. Figured I better visit again before Trump has it knocked down. I mean, anything is possible...

Yo,
I don't like to brag* but I'm going to see the wonderful Susie Dent at a wordy event in Wimbledon tomorrow. Confidently expecting to learn things! Will report.

When it comes to a choice between cock-up and conspiracy, most MPs naturally gravitate to conspiracy. So much more exciting. Life’s too dull when it’s just some unelected apparatchik doing a job badly.

Commentary about the performative “grief” being demanded of us all, written by Stone Erickson Mims, a Black man I do not know personally.

It was passed on to me.

I’m passing it on without comment.

None is necessary.

Possible causes of your problems. It’s a diagram that (sadly) still seems relevant in 2025, so reposting a year and a bit on.

Using up the odds and ends of the chocolate stash in the house before I buy more. There is a box of After Eights that must date from Christmas. Did you know that a serving, according to the box, is two? Did anyone, ever?

I can confidently recommend @susiedent.com ,though, whom I pretty much worship. She knows everything and more about words and has a series on YouTube about swearing, all enunciated perfectly like your fucking lady. You think: Does she kiss her mother with that mouth? 🥂 🇫🇷 💙

Tesco takes more from you than it costs for Asylum Seekers, and the Banks take more in 2 weeks than Asylum Seekers cost in an entire year.

But of course, there is absolute silence about that.

I really don't think attacks onA&E staff are funny. But I couldn't help smiling at this juxtaposition of headline and picture. I mean, fancy that pelican following her all the way to the park to vent its spleen!

Sad news. Why does the BBC struggle so much to put on a decent book show?
Sad to hear that BBC2 have cancelled Between The Covers, one of the few attempts at a book review show where I felt you got honest recommendations from guests and that - even more surprisingly - other guests were free to disagree with them. They never did The Larks Ascending, though.
