Recovering librarian. Philosophy survivor. Never use a short word when a veritable cornucopia of egregiously auto-omphaloscopic sesquipedalianisms will do.
A follow back is NOT an invitation to climb into my DMs unbidden. Ask permission in public first!
It was very posh school dinners, which was what I'd been led to expect, and no bad thing. Highly enjoyable!

It was all I could do not to kneel in an act of worship! She was everything you could hope for. So knowledgeable and passionate about words, especially Apricity. And with even more human warmth than when she's the other side of a TV screen. I 🥰 her!

Good evening MJ

Stop press: as promised, she managed to make her world-beating granola before collapsing into a heap for 3 hours. Later, she managed a decent portion of my world-beating stir fry with cavolo nero. It's progress but I'll still be flying solo to the market tomorrow, as long as I'm still clean!

Close but no cigar. The last sentence of this is "Reader, I married him", recalling the time when, having swooned into Mr Rochester's manly, tortured arms and plighted her troth, Jane accompanied him churchward to begin her life of connubial bliss in his kitchen.*

*Cynical, moi?

I really don't think attacks onA&E staff are funny. But I couldn't help smiling at this juxtaposition of headline and picture. I mean, fancy that pelican following her all the way to the park to vent its spleen!

The archaeological museum in Heraklion is a wonder. And it's only a few miles further to Knossos. They like to boast that those Minoans had better plumbing than the Romans, centuries earlier. They mention their achievements in silicone breast enhancement less often for some reason...

Ah, don't worry, I was hamming it up. Spent B'day Eve in a hotel that used to be a prison and a lovely B'day as the guest of M. Raymond Blanc
Below:
1. The"prison" carpet (in an actual cell!).
2. Its grim inspiration.
3 The happy celebrants!

Here's a fun fact: we spent last night in prison! Or rather a hotel that used to be a prison. The rooms were literally cells. Note the day-counting carpet design! The pinkish one is how it would have looked back in the day. Yikes!

Good morning Kitty 😊
Discovered yesterday that a good place to be when it's scorchio is up in the gods at No. 1 Court, Wimbledon. Shady, superb view of the Court and, above all, a constant cooling breeze!
Happy Thursday!

Fabulous!
Walked about a million miles a day and stayed at our usual hotel called Forum where they greet us with open arms. They're literally 50 yards from the ruins! Italy knows how to treat coeliacs, as partner is, so fab meals
And imagine breakfast here!😋

Good morning Sukie 😊 ☕️
If your Latin isn't up to it (mine wasn't) this means MONEY WELCOME. You don't get the impression those mercantile Pompeiians would be natural Labour voters...

Here's exquisite art from Villa Ariana where Pliny the Elder died of over-exertion from helping eruption survivors

Good morning Paulette 😊 ☕️ 🥐
Guess where I am!

For ancient: a splendid snake fresco.
For modern: a fountain at the Museum gardens, Capo di Monte, Naples. If only they'd said the Museum was closed we'd have gone another day and seen some Michaelangelos! 😠

1. Our ancient guide and soi-disant 79AD eruption survivor (plausibly, no?).
2. Two beautiful people accompanied by 2 living caryatids, one looking a bit cross.
3. Vesuvius at sunset!
More to follow in dribs and drabs.

You were too polite to mention that I promised a romantic reflection and didn't deliver. Here we are, reflected in the conservatory roof. She is poring over her phone and I over mine. So some irony is involved in the word "romantic". 🙄 🤣

Hello 👋
You lot expressed interest in my Pompeii adventures. Arrived yesterday. Here's:
Vesuvius behind a beautiful tree.
A couple of new excavations, unseen for 2k years
A romantic reflection we spotted at dinner!

Arepas al fresco as mentioned yesterday. With the Common looking very Déjeuner sur L'herbe, no?
Hope your day is going as pleasantly!

Good morning Your Majesty 😊 ☕ ☕ ☕ 👸 💚
You've mysteriously stopped appearing in my feed! I knew you had things on but eventually I looked you up and was delighted to see you looking absolutely in the pink!
Here's a guess-where-I-am featuring a compatriot of yours.
Happy Friday!
