Day 23 of our #AdventCalendar is a nod to that childhood moment you opened a present, and it wasn't quite what you expected. Green Hairstreak is a regular sight on our tours - but those green wings aren't what they seem, their colour not caused by true pigment, but achieved by light refraction.

What to buy last minute! It’s nearly Christmas - but luckily our museum shops are full of brilliant last‑minute finds. Choose from ornaments, socks, chutneys, sweet treats, and more.

I just supported this appeal for the NT to buy this vital butterfly site. The surrounding arable land will be converted to flower-rich grassland, greatly expanding the butterfly and wildlife habitat in the centre of the Dorset Downs. Please help if you can www.nationaltrust.org.uk/support-us/a...

England’s most important nature sites are being failed.❌

Protected sites can and should be driving nature’s recovery.

But today’s OEP report exposes the real problem: years of weak delivery, underfunding and political drift have left them unable to do the job the law intended.

Another disastrous mistake from our calamitous government. Please email your MP to protest about this latest attempt at bulldozing nature @savebutterflies.bsky.social @bc-hertsmiddx.bsky.social @bbcspringwatch.bsky.social
Last night the Government steamrollered its Planning Bill through, slamming the door on vital protections for nature.

They said it would be a ‘win-win’ for the economy and nature.

But in reality, they’ve pushed nature into last place.
