The powerful portrait of a male deity from a floor excavated by Tessa Verney Wheeler at VERVLAMIVM (St Albans) in 1931 now in Verulamium Museum

The inclusion of red lobster claws makes it likely this is Oceanus 🦞

We love the use of single rounded tesserae for his pupils 😍

Today feels like the perfect day to share this photo. 💛
With Blue Monday & Brew Monday landing together, if you’re in town or nearby for work, stop by the Courtroom Café for a coffee, then head upstairs to see #Helios. It’s a lovely little lift to the day! 🌞

☀️Helios by Luke Jerram has a way of stopping you in your tracks, especially when you see it through mirrors!🪞It’s the second-to-last weekend, so now’s the time to visit. You can turn up on the day, but advance booking is the best way to secure your slot, as numbers per session are limited.

🚨 We need your help! We’re trying to identify the name of the garden centre that was on the circled site between 1986-1997. If you remember which garden centre chain operated there during those years, please let us know in the comments!
Given it’s on the dual carriageway, we hope someone remembers.

Not your average jug!
The Kingsbury Jug was discovered in 1813 inside a stone coffin close to Kingsbury Manor House, St Albans. Alongside it was a skeleton and glass vessels. See it up close at Verulamium Museum on your next visit!
