Good morning from Greece - Lake Kerkini in the north to be more precise.

Our guests are currently enjoying a chilly boat trip on the lake - keeping warm being mesmerised by the Dalmatian Pelicans they're there to see & photograph.

'Iberian Lynx in the Lens'

Our group had a great time in Spain with lots of Lynx sightings & behaviour to observe from these beautiful cats! They enjoyed a wide variety of other wildlife too. We can't to return - and we'll be launching another new Spanish tour soon as well.

Looking back on 2025, one of my wildlife highlights was spending time in northern Greece in June. Here's a small selection of butterflies photographed on my travels.

Overall 2025 has been an excellent year & I am raring to go for the next 12 months too! Best wishes to all the good folk here too!

📢 NEW #orchid discovered on our 2025 #RhodesOrchidOdyssey tour!

🌟Ophrys chiosica was found by us this April. A species that was previously thought to be endemic to Chios Island.

🌟It’s the 2nd orchid we’ve added to the island list from our tours, Ophrys samia being the other one.

Christmas is all bright colours & bling & we can find ourselves drawn to the colourful in the butterfly world too. But lets not forget the subtle beauty of the less coloured species! Here is Russian Heath in Greece by Yealand K & White-bordered Grayling in Türkiye by Markus D.

Intriguing paper from the UK showing contrasting trends of Plebejus argus in two different habitats: heathlands doing very well, limestone grasslands doing very badly. Wonderful to see what fifty years worth of monitoring data can show us
What does 50 yrs of butterfly monitoring tell you? In this case its a puzzle. The dramatic rise of the Silver-studded Blue, Plebejus argus, over 50 yrs at Studland Heath, UK. @ukbutterflies.bsky.social @dorsetbutterflies.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social
