I enjoy butterflies & orchids, so it is always nice when they come combined, such as this Black-veined White nectaring on a Lax-flowered Orchid.

Taken on the @greenwingstours.bsky.social Orchid Odyssey tour, which you can join this coming spring, 1 - 8 April 2026.

🦋'Bolivian Butterfly Brilliance'🦋

Our happy group just saw over 60 fresh Anteros butterflies of at least 5 different species.

There's about 16 species in the genus, part of the Riodinidae (metalmark) family.

Pictured below is Anteros formosus by tour leader Adrian Hoskins.

It's all go in Goa! We've just begun yet another butterfly tour, this time in India.

Here's an early highlight, the Malabar Tree Nymph (Idea malabarica), state butterfly for Goa & endemic of the Western Ghats.

'Global Greenwingers'

We currently have groups butterflying in India & Bolivia and recently completed a very successful trip in South Africa.

Hutchinson’s Highflier was a top target there & our guests got unrivalled views of this stunner!

Our enthusiastic plant finders have found 8 species of Colchicum & 6 Crocuses so far, during days filled with fine flora, food & genuine Greek culture, in this historically rich peninsula.

For those who don't like spiders (see last post) here's something 'cuter'. A delightful Crimson Speckled (Utetheisa pulchella) that I saw yesterday morning.

For photographers, this is a fairly big crop from a shot that was taken at 400mm with my trusty Canon 100-400 lens. So, not a macro shot.
