Oh dang, that's a lot of new followers.

Hi folks! I'm Jake (or Jaymic), and I do some freelance creative text work for Magic. Please expect most of my posts to be about said Magic.

I also dip my toe into story content creation now and again. Might do that soon if I can find the right platform.

Whatever is in the Epstein Files is so explosive that the leaders of the Department of Justice are openly breaking the law every day to keep us from seeing it. (Just a reminder amongst all the other stuff flying around.)

Whatever people can do to show solidarity is helping, seriously. Money, resharing, etc
I've been here 24 hours, but already with what I've seen, well, I genuinely believe we're going to win. People here are well aware that what happens here impacts the entire country, that it sets the tone for resistance. ICE is angry, ICE is terrified, of how deeply unpopular it is.

As writer, I would love to not have to keep using the "Everything GOP smacks of rape culture/domestic violence" metaphor, vary it up a bit, but they just keep going to the same well! It is what it is.
US Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent:

What I am urging everyone here to do is sit back, take a deep breath, and let things play out. The worst thing countries can do is escalate against the United States.

Literally everyone who even vaguely knew what a tariff was said this when they were introduced! You don’t need a team of economists to analyze the situation — no one who lives in reality was confused by this!
“Foreign exporters absorbed only 4% of last year’s U.S. tariff increases by lowering prices, while American consumers and importers absorbed 96%.

“Rather than acting as a tax on foreign producers, the tariffs functioned as a consumption tax on Americans.”

I'm seeing lots of people debating if Dems should focus more on ICE, more on affordability, etc.

Do this. This message got to my sister, who's not following this stuff closely, and it made her angry
AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are what’s paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.

1. In a major victory, Democrats have managed to get all anti-trans riders stripped from the final appropriations bills.

This includes HHS and Ed, which had the worst provisions in congressional history.

If it passes, it will be a big win for 2026.

The Republicans made your health insurance premiums skyrocket to pay for this.

Every contractor-run prison bed comes at the expense of a child getting vaccinations against measles, mumps, rubella and whooping cough.

EVERY REPUBLICAN SHOULD HOLD A BABY DYING OF PERTUSSIS BECAUSE OF THEIR VOTE.
NEW: ICE will soon spend up to $50 million to anchor a regional transfer hub in the Upper Midwest run by private contractors.

An internal forecast reviewed by WIRED points to a Minnesota town with a long-dormant prison.

ICE is looking to ship people up to 400 miles across 5 states.

As angry as I am about the events of today, I wish I could say I’m surprised. But US police have been murdering black and brown people point-blank for as long as they’ve been here. Citizens took to the streets about it en masse in 2020 and not a damn near thing has ever changed. Why would it now?

Don't let this Jan 6th point get lost:

Jack Smith testified to Congress he had "proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election."

In other words, he could prove in court that Trump attempted a coup.

second degree murder, and specifically depraved heart murder, wherein the accused doesn't actively plan to kill a specific person or people but acts with callous disregard for human life - like firing a gun into a crowd or driving drunk - should apply to decisions made by CEOs and heads of industry
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I have no words for the tangled nightmare that is the state of America right now. Any attempt to make sense of it ends in incoherent screaming, either within or without.

THIS. Did you know sickle cell is curable, now? FULLY curable.

If you're feeling down or despairing about what FEELS like technology/advancement/science "standing still" or being fully malicious, I have great news: You're not paying attention to actual science. Just tech industry marketing.
meanwhile.... medicine has taken INSANE leaps and bounds in the last 2 years.
we're out here curing HIV and leukemia and creating 100% efficacy vaccines against all sorts of cancers, and now this??

between this and renewable energy outstripping fossil fuels in efficiency, the future is bright

Everyone has a list of so-called "red flags" when they're dating. And for some, especially younger Americans, different political views is a relationship deal breaker.

Grok can't apologize. Grok can, when prompted, generate a word sequence that is statistically similar to the colloquial phrases we think of as "apologies," but Grok cannot actually apologize because Grok isn't sentient. But we all have a lot of trouble with this because we assume sentience IS speech
