I talk a lot about MCAS and TTRPGs.
Canadian-Australian living in Alberta.
Probably won't follow you if you're American. I get enough of that on every other social platform.
Occasional Christian-posting. Occasional Ace-posting.

Just putting this out there, I want to teach people how to sew (via video call) this year, if you want sewing support let's chat!

I have a degree in Apparel Technology, and I need a way to support myself that doesn't exacerbate my MCAS, online sewing coaching is something I'd LOVE to do.

Hey folks: we’re supporting South Minneapolis latino-owned businesses and the unhoused at the same time—buying breakfast burritos from local taquerias to distribute to unsheltered folks.

Help us help each other!

Once again ticked off at the kind of people who think that all financial problems can be solved with better budgeting, saving more, and financial literacy.

No amount of budget wrangling can compensate for basic expenses being higher than your income.

Just a heads up, alt text is to describe an image for those who can’t see it. Not be an extra little comment.

If you can’t put yourself in the shoes of people unable to see it, instead imagine the image won’t load for you, and whether the alt text would help.

Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s incredible. My favorite so far is last week’s. Legit got me emotional.

Sitting here with friends, scheming to bring more beautiful things into the world.

I open bluesky, am met with more horror. Every day more horror.

On Sunday, I gave a talk to the scientists where I implored everyone to do *anything*.

It's easier to break than make things. Please make something.

The person who invents a thrift store clothing fragrance remover could be rich rich rich.

(And I mean a thing that specifically removes dryer sheet + scent bead fragrances. We've got vinegar and washing soda for organic thrift store smells.)

I use 1g powdered milk for 10g of water, ymmv.
Have you ever found a good grams of powdered milk to cups of liquid milk? I'm still looking for more than one source that actually agree with each other.

Americans or not I don't care, cooking with a scale is revolutionary and extremely ADHD friendly. (Fewer things to wash!)

Also side note Aussie recipes are mostly in metric, if you use them you need to know that Australian Tbsp are 20mL but North American Tbsp are 15mL.
Oh, quick note for Americans who resolved to learn to cook in the new year.

Metric. Get a scale, they're like $12. Use grams. You never have to scramble for a measuring cup again. You never have to worry about baked goods going wonky because the flour wasn't leveled or something.

There is an LED light in my parents' bedroom that flickers wildly, and I just learned that my parents CANNOT SEE the flicker at all. It's solid light to them. (To me it flickers as dramatically as a candle, or leaves moving in the wind.)

I had to ask like four times if it was solid light for them.

New hypothesis for what's up with my eyes/migraines: Irlen Syndrome but only under certain types of artificial lighting. (Normal sunlight spectra doesn't trigger Irlen Syndrome.)

Irlen Syndrome is a name for sensory processing issues with light, that can often make it hard to read.

One of my favourite anti-consumerist things to do is after I get an ad on YouTube, go "it is literally just deodorant" in the most dry, dour tone in my mind.

Ooof I feel this, as someone who grew up in Australia, moved to Canada in my teens, has most of my Canadian extended family on the other side of the country, and did YWAM (thus I have friends all over the world), my heart is also all over the globe.

This is a gift and a curse.
Being a peripatetic academic, my heart is scattered across that map.

It is a gift with a sting in it.

People ask where I’d want to move to if I had a choice, & that’s an essay.

I told a colleague once (maybe I didn’t) that I envied most where they lived. Not the place, but their life’s density.

I live in Alberta with conservatives as my representatives both provincially and federally; they are not gonna do the things I want them to do.

Calling/writing my representatives HAS to be a process-oriented practice for me, not an outcome-oriented goal, or I will go batshit.
Half of the reason for calling representatives is for us, so we can move that angry energy in a way that stops it from stewing internally, and for practice in doing something.

If they listen and do something about it, even better.
