I promised myself that this time, I would not get sucked in. I would not react to every single thing, I would not doom scroll. I didn’t realize this promise was contingent on them not doing all the massively bad things all at once.

in any case it is wild that voters just sent a huge message and a bunch of senate democrats are all, “it doesn’t look like anything to me”

I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

Traveling so had to hit the nearest #NoKings demonstration. Here’s New Brunswick, NJ. We walked up and down both sides and roughly counted 1300 in attendance.

Well I’m glad I’m not flying this week!
“.. Beginning at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Hollywood Burbank Airport will have no air traffic controllers in their tower, ABC News has learned.”

In absolute earnest, I think terror of “elitism” has put a powerful vocabulary for describing what’s going on here out of play. These people are vulgar, thuggish, unsophisticated, crass, unschooled, unreflective. They are low in a sense that has nothing to do with income, & it’s fine to say so.

This fall will be the first big stress test for US clothing retailers. Trump announced his first big round of tariff hikes on April 2 ("Liberation Day"), after most stores received their spring/summer deliveries. It's an open question how they will handle fall/winter deliveries with 10-145% tariffs.

I understand most people don’t want to leave X because that’s where most other people still are.

That just means that it’s a collective action problem; it can be overcome with organizing that brings people together towards non-cooperation.

If we can’t even get off X, how can we stop fascism?

In effect, Grok has answered the question: What sort of logically internally consistent worldview does it take to produce content that won’t routinely offend MAGA sensibilities. And the answer is “a Nazi worldview.”

Our only hope is to draw the line now. To stick up for our friends and neighbors, our co-workers and loved ones, who are undocumented and being hunted.

If morality or empathy for them is not enough to motivate you, fine. Then let this be your motivation: if you don’t draw this line, you are next.

Data is clear that most GOP voters won't blame the GOP for any of this, but you don't need most. You don't even need a plurality. 1 out of 15 is the house flips. 1 out of 10 and the senate flips.

Introduced the kids to Field of Dreams tonight. On the eve of July 4th, it felt necessary to remember the good of Americana and magic. Also, the scene at the school board meeting decrying the book banners as fascists still slaps.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

ICE just keeps thinking the videos of these arrests don’t exist. We can see that Lander never laid a hand on anyone.
CONFIRMED

ICE accuses Lander of assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels
"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions
Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.

again: The man's belief that imports is bad is insane. it really doesn't matter what motivates it (i think it's racial animus towards Foreigners, personally), because he's never gonna let it go.

we have to accept that the president is genuinely insane and go from there. bsky.app/profile/sky....
there's literally no conclusion from the plain language of trump's words that he thinks imports are in themselves very bad

the problem is, that conclusion is fucking insane, so people are trying to rationalize to *something else* to avoid the obvious fact that the man is insane
also the eagle eyed amongst us will have noticed the US has a [goods] surplus with the UK but even that isn't enough to get rid of the tariffs because, again, as Trump has illustrated so many times i've lost count: the goal is to eliminate imports. all else is 2ndary bsky.app/profile/sky....
