which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

Polar bears a BIG. This one had pass through only a few hours prior. #mammals 🌿

WE FOUND IT! We trekked day and night through tiger-patrolled Sumatran rainforests accessible only under permit for this: Rafflesia hasseltii. Few people have ever seen this flower, and we watched it open by night. Magic.

In my mind American Wigeons aren't particularly small ducks per se, but they sure look that way with hefty Mallards!
Same American Wigeon in the preceding posts, a smaller round duck with orange-brown on her sides, and a blue-gray beak with a black tip. She is floating with a male and female plumage Mallard, larger ducks. The female plumage is a warn mottled brown, with an orange beak. The male is a stately gray-brown on the back, black on his butt, orange legs, brown on his chest, iridescent shining green/blue on the head, and yellow on the beak. They are floating together in a cold blue-gray lake.

an incredible thing just happened to me: my vet has added an indoor-outdoor pigeon to its family, his name is papi chulo and when I was taking pictures of him outside … he perched on my head. I have never been so delighted in all my life!!!

Club-mosses are so cool. Descendants of the most ancient vascular plants, these tiny forest dwellers are the legacy of giant plants of the Devonian period. They reproduce through spores. I think these two are Prickly Tree Clubmoss and Interrupted Clubmoss 🌿

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

This was the only peek I got before clouds enveloped the sky.
Although it appeared normal to my eye and on my phone, when I snapped the picture of the only stars visible in the sky, crimson pooled through a strange sick green gray. As I watched, the clouds completed their quilt, turning the whole sky yellow to my phone’s eye, though I could not detect anything except the absence of stars with my own eyes. This is the third time the aurora has been visible in my location, and every single time, it’s been on the day of a gut-wrenching doctor appointment or lab procedure. I feel like my own blood is being poured out into the sky for the world to see my pain and fear, and it foreshadows the blood I’ll be spilling in the future, someday. A future I have already put off multiple times. A future I don’t want to be there for. It’s salt in my wound, showing me something I’ve so desperately wanted to see on days I so desperately need hope. I don’t believe in miracles anymore. I don’t have faith in anything or anyone. I merely exist, to be seen and quickly forgotten. For now, I weep silently as I think of the world at large and my own inner world. I hope someday I will see the lights when my heart is lighter and brighter.
