Funding for mental healthcare (and a range of other important services) for newly arrived refugees was eliminated by the Trump administration immediately upon taking office.

Despite having a domestic purpose, it was in the foreign aide budgets they cancelled.
The alleged shooter of two National Guard members was struggling with mental illness, his ability to support his family, and, according to an Afghan veteran who fought with him, his pleas for help to the CIA went unanswered.

international students are a lynchpin of the finances of many universities - they pay full-freight tuition and are not eligible for most types of financial aid - its hard not to read this as a particularly cruel and callous part of the right's attempt to defund and destroy America's universities.
New, from me: Marco Rubio used to boast that he was banned from China, calling it a totalitarian state.

Now he combines a) new surveillance capabilities to monitor and punish international students, with b) little accountability or due process. 🧵

- Unanimous Ruling on Due Process (9–0 decision):
The Court ruled that detainees must be given a chance to challenge their deportations, even under the Alien Enemies Act. This safeguards some level of due process, which runs counter to the idea that the administration has unchecked authority.

We’re building a #PeoplesMovement.

Today, over 3 million people across the country stood up to say HANDS OFF our democracy.

And history shows that when just 3.5% of the population engages in sustained, peaceful resistance—transformative change is inevitable.

My brain is stuck on all the Christian churches gearing up for Easter and pressuring folks to pretend as if gathering together with folks who support fascism is a good and moral thing to do. The Christian belief in “unity” is truly just a way to enable abusive people.

When a teacher/parent labels a student, for eg, as a "hands-on learner" this may limit how they're taught, what they think they can do and what they learn. @C_Hendrick writes about a new paper that shows the harmful effect of the learning styles myth.

So teens are getting to vote for the first time... this month!

And there's a tremendous amount of energy to get students to turn out.

Just as long as we preface this with “we really do have to change how we are teaching reading…” then yes, we can point out how malevolent actors used a legit issue to further defund schools.
