🚨Teach real math & teach it well. That’s the key to engagement. Projects and gimmicks can look appealing, but without purposeful practice they don’t build competence. Competence is what makes students like math. We like stuff when we're good at it.

🩺 Math education today is where medicine was 200 years ago: light on evidence & ed gurus selling programs that don't work. Like surgeons who refused to wash their hands because they didn't want to admit they were wrong. Check out this clip ⬇️ youtube.com/shorts/sNOQY...

🚨 If students aren’t thriving in math, you've got to ask why. Do you have:
-the right leadership?
-people in charge who understand how humans learn?
-programs that are tested & not just adopted because they sound good?
🎯 If kids aren’t learning math, the problem isn’t the kids. Clip below ⬇️

Great opinion piece in the Globe & Mail by Nidhi Sachdeva "For years, math instruction has leaned heavily toward inquiry-first or discovery-based approaches, often w/o sufficient explicit instruction..but students can't reason about ideas they haven't learned"

Thrilled to be quoted and see Chalk & Talk mentioned in this Norwegian NRK media article about the math curriculum. Encouraging to see a national public broadcaster questioning whether current curricular trends are driven more by ideology than by evidence. www.nrk.no/trondelag/vi...

NRK har laget en flott sak om matteundervisning, hvor jeg har hatt gleden av å bidra. Den viser fint utfordringene med utforsking og uklare læreplaner. Journalist Veløy stiller de riktige spørsmålene.

My thoughts on rejecting quantitative research are expressed in this clip. Jonas made a good point. If you don't believe in real evidence, what's left? It becomes eminence-based, not evidence-based. We're supposed to believe people b/c of their status. www.tiktok.com/@chalkandtal...
Why do some education academics reject the science of learning? 🔍 This clip breaks down why educational research from cognitive science flies under the radar, how epistemological biases took root, and...

💡 Do exams improve education? YES. ✅
We can analyze PISA and TIMSS data to see what happens when countries make education changes.
Introduce exams → achievement rises. Abolish them → scores decline.
Nuno Crato knows the data well.
