Elsie's second gotcha anniversary. Very different dog from the one we picked up from Dog's Trust Shrewsbury two years ago, having put on 6kg, turned foxy red, learned to bark and hate squirrels, and perfected looking cute.

I'll just leave this stat here.
Only four people in the UK have formally complained about a trans woman entering a “single-sex” facility, an eye-opening report has revealed.

A report published by advocacy group TransLucent found that only four official complaints were documented across 382 public bodies since 2022.

Now that I am pretty mobile again I was going to take the van to the supermarket (automatic so no clutch to push) but OH had reported black ice on three already tricky bits of the journey so going to have to wait.

Just heard an AI ethicist talk about how important it is that we say ‘MEN are using Grok to undress images of babies, children and women’ not ‘Grok is….’. Grok isn’t responsible for the action, the men enabling & using it for this repulsive purpose are. Small but important bit of linguistic accuracy

My absolute favourite of the "daft ways you have hurt yourself" stories.
It's a short thread and is absolutely worth a minute of your time! 😁
I told this story on the other site once, so here you go...

I was working for the county office of the Department of Labor as an assistant to Contracts and Planning and the Community Workforce Program in a big office.

My boss has a big desk across the room, and I had a smaller one that faced him.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

😅

Woman just gone down the lane with 2 young kids and a dog in a Unimog and we are very jealous. Of the vehicle obviously.

More snow overnight on top of the frozen ungritted skating rink that is the lane outside. It's due to thaw a bit, but we're going nowhere today again.

It's lovely out from a visual perspective, but that's a 60mph road out there which is a rush hour cut through to avoid the speed restrictions on the big A road. Today only occasional local traffic and the odd tractor, still -6 out.

......and it's started. There's a guide dogs event later in the month that I didn't put my name down for cos it clashes with something else & it's a long way for me to go. However none of that fully registered, nor that I have Honda Jazz so currently neither the stock or physical stall can get there

We crawled sedately, slowly the three miles to the main trunk road, took one look at the mayhem, went round the roundabout and crawled slowly and sedately back home again. #ukSnow

I'm watching Chariots of Fire, of course, and am wincing at the clouds of midges visible round the actors in the outdoor scenes in Scotland.

In the wake of all the news coming out of the US and the amount of shouting at the TV I've done, I thought everyone else might benefit from one of my favourite photos from 2017 to break up the doom scrolling.

I cannot fix the big things, so here's a small thing.

My knee based hiccup is having interesting consequences. OH has declared it clarifies his need to buy a small tractor as I'm not able to help him drag the log splitter out from storage and going forward he will struggle to move kit around anyway, so it makes perfect sense.

At 5.15pm GMT today, the Earth will be at perihelion, the closest point to the Sun in our annual round.

This should be the start of the year. Happy new orbit, everyone!

No cheating, post the most recent picture of your pet.
Been trying to catch Elsie doing her full stretch downward dog but this is the best I've managed so far. And no, I'm not up a ladder, the perspective just came out weird

Cracking good book. James needs to be forced to write these until he throws a Conan-Doyle fit and has the Goths invade everything.
Oh gawd it's January, which means my book is coming out in paperback on the 29th! Waterstones are doing an exclusive edition with red edges, a prequel chapter AND the first chapter of the sequel, The Hoard and can be pre-ordered THUSLY: www.waterstones.com/book/pagans/...
