A welcome & wise intervention from Julian Richer, making the simple & important point: success in life is often down to sheer good fortune. Those who have found success in their own lives should acknowledge this, and what follows from it. @fairness.bsky.social

“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death

Colleagues and I have been promoting the need for a Royal Commission on the future of Canada’s economy for the better part of a year. That many are only now starting to realize that the US *really* isn’t interested in economic cooperation highlights the need for this vital national conversation.
Open letter to the next prime minister: We need a royal commission on Canada’s future

A comprehensive trade and security deal with the US was never, ever possible: an ongoing series.
It is frustrating that this basic point is only now starting to become the conventional wisdom, a full year (actually, seven years) after governments had all the facts necessary to reach this conclusion.

The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

My question is simple: What about those who design, approve, build and maintain hostile road design? Do they have a role?
A crossing guard was killed by the driver of a dump truck yesterday. absolutely heartbreaking.
Look at our intersections, look how hostile these are for people/children - this is what we continue to build and defend at all costs. These aren't accidents, these are results. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Climate knowledge has been taken hostage to prevent climate action.

“It didn’t happen by accident. It’s the product of a deliberate and systematic assault on knowledge by some of the richest people on Earth. Preventing climate breakdown means protecting ourselves from the storm of lies.”

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
