A white Apartheid dead-ender gutting the most successful humanitarian effort of the century, because it was saving too many Africans from AIDS, would have once been thought of as too "on the nose."
If there's an argument that what Musk/Trump have done to PEPFAR isn't a crime against humanity, I'm not really interested in hearing it.

So grateful for the opportunity to discuss my research on ethics and human remains in museums and research with museum professionals from a range of institutions, and thinkers from across the Netherlands this week.
We are never done with ethics, but we are doing the work.

Out today: The Oxford Handbook of Mesolithic Europe with contributions by brilliant mesolithic specialists from across Europe.
Solid and inspired research.
The beautiful cover by Tom Björklund captures the human scale of the past - a fundamental theme for the book.

Great piece that reminds us of the impact of good Ph.D thesis advisors - of the responsibility it entails, and of how hard and important this work (that we rarely talk about) is.
A grad student's supervisor is the launchpad of a career. While the few, bad supervisors grab the limelight, the spotlight on the new PhD elides the years & years of investment by good supervisors (the majority).
Yet there is no "Q" in HQP without them.

Recent paper in Current Anth examines the ethics of aDNA sampling. It is an important discussion, but as we point out in our published comment, the study lacks in interdisciplinary literacy and both overestimates and underestimates the challenges ahead.

A recently published analysis of a 17th century painting reminds us of how misogyny, racism, and xenophobia are mobilized in times of insecurity. Well, old habits die hard. That sounds uncomfortably familiar.
