I don't say this often but: I'm so proud to be a climate and environment reporter. We cover an issue that is vitally important to humanity and the natural world. 14 of my climate colleagues at the Post were laid off today and I'm devastated.

BREAKING: The Trump administration repeatedly said the aggressive apartment raid in Chicago last fall was prompted by intel on a gang takeover.

New docs show the real motivation was to get alleged squatters. And the landlord and manager helped them.

The GOP is outraged that Jack Smith, with judicial search warrants, accessed the phone records of half a dozen GOP Senators who Trump and his people called on or around J6.

Meanwhile, DHS is doing the same thing to thousands, or 10s of thousands, of people right now, without a real warrant.

It’s hard to focus on one thing to be appalled about, but these stories out of Minnesota are awful. (And, of course, on the other hand, very encouraging.) I cannot believe you can wrongly grab somebody, transport them, and then leave them where YOU took them.
From FB regarding Pizza Luce in Minnesota.

I like it when I can do something to help people displaced by ICE and then after I do that thing I get to eat a pizza.

And not to put too fine a point on it, but a president who ran on eliminating “illegal” immigrants created a ton more “illegal” immigrants by canceling a bunch of actual real legal statuses. He took people off the path that everyone says they want people on.
I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

20 infants detained by ICE!!!
Must reading from immigration lawyer Elora Mukherjee. “From January to October 2025, at least 3,800 children under the age of 18, including 20 infants, were arrested and detained by U.S. immigration authorities.” Cruel and deplorable.

1) I’m not aware of any evidence (anecdotal or otherwise) of Trump supporters changing their minds
2) I agree that “I told you so” is a wildly unproductive response here
3) it sure would be nice if people had enough integrity to admit they were wrong without getting their pride so twisted in knots.

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.
