happy first birthday to Bluesky, and what a year it's been!

with every day, the need for an open network that puts people first becomes increasingly clear. we're glad to be building this with you. after all, the heart of a social network is the people.

Because in the United States, it’s legal to feed chicken shit to cattle.

That’s why. That’s literally the reason

I'm practicing making eggs custard tonight because, unbelievably, a Japanese TV show slipped into my dms asking me about a pic of egg custard on my Instagram and now they are coming to my house to film me making egg custard this weekend.

It's... Amazing.

SPEAKING OF GARDENS

yall better have library cards. Some (most!!) public library systems have seed libraries and libraries of things where you can borrow things you may not need to own.

Also libraries are revolutionary and librarians have always been on the front lines

You probably could end up with more babies if you did things like make housing and healthcare affordable, guarantee living wages, and invest heavily in universal pre-K and primary schools but I'm going to assume those aren't on the table

It has been 60 years since Minnesota experienced as little crime as it did in 2024. For the vast majority of people alive in Minnesota last year was the safest of their lives.

Keep this in mind when politicians in upcoming elections attempt to use fear to get you to vote for them!

Someone should just call Trump 2.0 the Caligula presidency.

Conclusion: Donations management is hard even under the best conditions. Despite good intentions, we often donate inappropriate items, at the wrong time, in the wrong place, and to the wrong people. We often overwhelm communities who don't have the people or systems in place to manage donations.

The tl;dr here is, "if you want to help after a disaster, send money, not stuff."
A THREAD on how disaster donations can be extremely harmful instead of helpful to communities experiencing a disaster.

I'll be using the movie Clueless to illustrate this issue but there is also decades of disaster research about this and plenty of first-hand accounts. #GreySky
