Yup. I was called “bougie girl” by Black students for damn near 4 years in college having went to a predominantly white high school previously. It never turned me against Blackness or Black people. I just chalked it up to ignorance and kept it pushing.

I really do not understand why we can’t be nuanced and admit that some Black people genuinely were rejected for being weird and that “weird” was often equivalent to “white.” 😵💫

The only way a white person in an interracial relationship feels comfortable spewing anti-Blackness is if the Black partner condones or tolerates it. Some level of anti-Black tolerance has to exist at home for them to feel bold enough to go that hard.
