I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

NIMBYs like Lorne Gunter know that the facts aren't on their side, so they resort to making things up.

Gunter: "Even if the units in eight-plexes were 500 square feet (they’re not), who could raise a family there?"

Fact: Administration found that half of units in rowhomes are 1000sqft or more.

Just saw the footage of the five party leaders standing shoulder to shoulder, alongside locals, at the memorial in Tumbler Ridge, a small town I've been to many times. I think it's good we have a country where a moment like this can occur. I think we should strive so moments like this don't need to.

But other rumours have pinned the shooter's motive on far-right ideology — an explanation experts doubt.
