Flood Watch issued yesterday at 1:18 pm.

WPC had mesoscale discussions throughout the event.

NWS issues Flash Flood Warning at 1:14 am.

NWS issues Flash Flood Emergency at 4:03 am.

NWS was on the ball.

The challenge is always getting the warning the last mile and getting people to respond.
Everyone making comments about DOGE and FEMA as it relates to the Texas flooding is insulting to the NWS employees working this event that were well aware of how bad this was becoming. Plenty of opportunities to use those arguments elsewhere.

You guys are doing it again.

Yes, NOAA is important because of the National Weather Service, but that is not all they do and you should stop saying it is.

I wrote this for the Union of Concerned Scientists. Read it and adjust your messaging accordingly. 🧪🦑🌎🐟

Ten Vital Services Provided by NOAA (Beyond the National Weather Service)
Far too much of the media coverage supporting NOAA only mentions one of many things they do: here are 10 more.

Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” isn’t just about tax cuts it quietly guts federal protections and reshapes entire agencies. Here’s what’s buried inside:

Pretty wild to go from, ‘maybe I’ll buy a house this year,’ to, ‘I hope I still have this job in April so I can go to my dentist appointment.’ And it’s only been 7 weeks!

NOAA braces for mass layoffs, fueling concerns about lifesaving weather services
NOAA is preparing to lay off more than 1,000 workers as part of the Trump administration's mandate for agencies to prepare "reductions in force," according to sources.

If there’s one takeaway from the American Revolution, it’s that this country is no place for radical pamphleteers.
Allina Habba says foreign students are not allowed to "hand out pamphlets in our country and try to infiltrate those terroristic thoughts ... and if you bring that into our country, you can get the hell out."

Very true!
And NOAA does way more than that.
Harmful algal bloom forecasts to protect human health, Fisheries management so we have a sustainable source of seafood, coral reef conservation (reefs not only create massive tourism $$ but also protect shoreline from storms)...and many other services

I think about this when things happen like getting the ‘5 Bullet Points’ email from the sketchy hr12@opm.gov address that somehow goes to elno who bought his seat at the govt. Stunts like that push boundaries so they can see how much we’ll give up.

I really don’t understand how they walked past security like this. Security at NOAA doesn’t mess around, one time they wouldn’t let me in with a wet umbrella.
“They apparently just sort of walked past security and said: ‘Get out of my way,’ and they’re looking for access for the IT systems, as they have in other agencies,” said a former Noaa official. “They will have access to the entire computer system, a lot of which is confidential information.”
Doge staffers enter Noaa headquarters and incite reports of cuts and threats
Members reportedly sought access to IT systems at agency that Project 2025 has called ‘harmful to US prosperity’
