This afternoon, retired Army general Stanley McChrystal spoke at the retirement ceremony hosted by HRC for six trans service members who were forced out under Trump’s ban.

“I shouldn’t have to be thanked for being here. First off, we shouldn’t be here. This shouldn’t be happening.”

If this is in effect by the time I’m done with fellowship, I don’t think I’ll stay in America. There is a lack of Pediatric Endocrinologists in the country, but this is not the country I chose to serve 11 years for in the Army. I have some difficult decisions to make.

NEWS: House Appropriations Committee Republicans released their spending bill for Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies. The legislation would prohibit taxpayer dollars for any type of gender-affirming care for transgender people. This would include programs like Medicaid
SEC. 243. None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to implement, administer, or enforce Executive Order 13988, entitled ‘‘Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation’’, published by the Executive Office of the President on January 25, 2021 (86 Fed. Reg. 7023). SEC. 244. None of the funds made available by this Act may be used for any social, psychological, behavioral,or medical intervention performed for the purposes of in16 tentionally changing the body of an individual (including by disrupting the body’s development, inhibiting its natural functions, or modifying its appearance) to no longer correspond to the individual’s biological sex.

In Residency on night shifts sometimes I would stand in the quiet of “The President’s Hospital”, reflecting on the U.S. Army values.

I joined the Army because I believed in those values and I still do. I left the Army, in part, because I saw leaders who could not uphold those values.
