In Residency on night shifts sometimes I would stand in the quiet of “The President’s Hospital”, reflecting on the U.S. Army values.

I joined the Army because I believed in those values and I still do. I left the Army, in part, because I saw leaders who could not uphold those values.

Tell the truth and get kicked out for being yourself. Lie and get saddled with guilt and fear for being found out, simply because you wish to continue your service.

In a state which is quickly legislating trans folks out of existence.

In a military which decided to throw away decades, centuries even total of experience, leadership, and service simple because we’re trans.

In a country which is becoming increasing more toxic.

Got my Outstanding Faculty Award in the mail today. Dated the week the news of the second military trans ban came out. I was selected as one of 13 out the entire USU faculty of 6000.
