I really liked Arlie Hochschild's book The Managed Heart, and she has since written two books about 5he emotions and concerns of people in the right wing. I think she is one of the greatest sociologists of the 20th/21st. I had the honor of being a TA for one of her students. #sociology

There has to be a way to do economic boycotts and short strikes and also acknowledge that people are shocked, traumatized, uncertain and scared. They may need to buy a lot of useless crap, eat sugary foods, and get together in groups to share emotions or to just be around people. #balanceinchaos

After the meditation service right after 9/11,quite a few people at my place of worship told me how helpful it was to have had a time to gather and grieve. I think that people need to be together more than they need to be on strike. A lot is happening, and many humans find comfort with other humans.

September 11, 2001 was on a Tuesday. Either the Wednesday or Thursday after 9/11, my place of worship had a weekly meditation circle. I was the meditation leader that evening, and attendance was much greater than usual. I usually read a poem or inspirational reading and invited people to reflect.

I realize that some groups are calling for strikes as a way to force Congress to defend ICE. However, I feel the need to be around people, whether in a place of worship, community center, coffeeshop, or bookstore. I think that it is likely that people need to gather to grieve and and talk and pray.

Organizers encouraged participants to disrupt Enterprise's operations by reserving rental cars and then canceling the bookings shortly before pickup — a tactic they say is designed to draw attention and strain vehicle availability that could be utilized by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
An 'ICE OUT Enterprise' protest is urging Minnesota residents to book and later cancel rental cars
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the latest company to find itself facing backlash amid anti-ICE protests in Minnesota.

A number of people from out-of-state have been opening tabs at small businesses—coffee shops where people on patrol can grab a drink and warm up, bars where people can be in community, etc. It’s been a deeply appreciated form of solidarity and helps the businesses closing tomorrow.
how (if at all) can we support the minnesota general strike on friday from afar?

Agreed. It’s everyone, and everywhere. It’s outer ring suburbs organizing their own rapid response teams. It’s young and old, and across political spectrum. They’re attacking our way of life, and so everyone is fighting back.
I keep seeing leftists from outside of Minneapolis say they’ve seen all this before, and no, you haven’t. I’ve been at this for 30+ years and I haven’t either. It’s not what you’re picturing. This is something else
I know people keep saying this but it’s hard to communicate the depth of active resistance here. Like, I’m on random cafes and people are checking in for observation shifts. Signs everywhere. Folks in visibility vests on the corners. It’s wild. Absolutely wild.

Then they jumped into their van and they left us alone
